About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ER (Emergency Room) Duration: 6 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC Must-Have: 2 years of experience in Emergency Department or Emergency Room Knowledge of traumas, strokes, sepsis, CHF, and cardiac issues Ability to manage patient holds in the Emergency Room Experience working with trauma bays and a high volume of patients Description: Candidates may not have been employed in any full-time, part-time, or PRN capacity within a related health system in the past year. The Emergency Room has 243 bays and a fast track area available for patient care. There is a separate triage area, and travelers may occasionally be required to assist with triage. Patient holding areas are intermixed within the Emergency Room, and ER RNs care for these holds. The Emergency Room does not have separate psych/seclusion rooms. In-house security is available on the unit. The average number of patients per day ranges from 80 to 90. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 4. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and PALS or ENPC. Common diagnoses and types of patients include trauma, stroke, sepsis, CHF, and cardiac. Registered Nurses will have both physicians and mid-levels available for support. Charge nurses and house supervisors are present on the unit. Nurse aides, paramedics, and patient sitters assist in patient care. The electronic medical record system utilized is Paragon. Respiratory therapy completes ABGs and breathing treatments. There are no monitoring technicians on the unit, and Registered Nurses are required to read ECG rhythms. X-ray and CT services are located adjacent to the Emergency Department. Phlebotomy services may be performed by either a tech or a Registered Nurse. Shift scheduling is self-scheduled, with options for days, nights, and various shift times. Weekend requirement is every other weekend, and holiday requirement is also every other. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating requirements exist to units in which the nurse is qualified. The dress code for the unit is navy. Unit-specific orientation is provided. The cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts to be canceled per 13-week assignment, and 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks. The care setting is acute. The trauma level is designated according to established criteria.
