We are looking for a Controller to lead accounting and financial operations for a growing construction business in Cayce, South Carolina. This position plays a central role in maintaining accurate reporting, supporting leadership with financial insight, and ensuring day-to-day fiscal activities are completed with precision. The ideal candidate brings strong construction accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to guide staff while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Direct the company’s accounting operations across affiliated entities, ensuring financial records are complete, accurate, and aligned with reporting deadlines.
• Lead and develop a small accounting team by providing oversight, coaching, and support that strengthens performance and accountability.
• Manage core transactional functions such as weekly payroll, vendor and subcontractor payments, receivables oversight, and collection follow-up, including verification of required lien documentation.
• Prepare and review monthly and year-end financial statements, bank reconciliations, cash position reporting, and other recurring reports for senior leadership.
• Oversee progress billing and job cost reporting based on contract terms, while maintaining work-in-progress, backlog, and overbilling or underbilling analyses.
• Partner with ownership and project leadership to build budgets, update forecasts, and evaluate financial performance against operational goals.
• Administer tax filings, contractor licensing, business registrations, and audit support to help the organization remain compliant with regulatory and financial obligations.
• Coordinate insurance and risk-related reporting, including workers’ compensation submissions, and assist with benefits and retirement program administration.
• Maintain equipment cost allocation tracking and assign applicable charges to projects on a regular basis.
• Support leadership with special projects, strategic planning initiatives, and financial scenario analysis related to growth opportunities.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred

• At least 7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within the construction industry.

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

• Experience with Sage 100, Timberline, or similar accounting software is preferred.

• Demonstrated leadership ability, including experience supervising staff and improving team performance.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Ability to handle confidential information appropriately and manage responsibilities independently while collaborating effectively with others.
