Growing together.The Phlebotomist performs venipuncture and capillary puncture on adults, neonates, and pediatric patients; collects urine specimens; participates in the instruction of new personnel; works with computer; communicates in a manner that promotes Laboratory professionalism as well as a comfortable phlebotomy. The Phlebotomist processes lab specimens.Schedule: This is a 37.5 -hour work week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:00 am to 6:00pm. Rotating Saturdays (one time per month) between the hours of 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The schedule will be determined by the hiring manager upon hire.Location: 2 Centerock Road, West Nyack, NY 10994Primary Responsibilities:Perform routine phlebotomy proceduresAbility to distinguish sample types and draw requirements with order of draw for lab testingAbility to perform waived testingNavigate laboratory computer system with minimal to no errorsPerform pediatric and adult phlebotomyObtain finger stick collectionVerify patient demographics accurately with two patient identifiersAdhere to safety and scientifically accepted infection control practices and standardsBlood collection: from adult and pediatric patients using vacutainer, syringe and butterfly techniques; capillary puncture using heel and fingerstick techniquesIdentifies and labels specimens appropriatelyInstructs patients in regard to urine and stool collection proceduresEnters accessioning data into the computerPrepares specimens for send out testingInventories supplies and prepares phlebotomy stations to effectively collect bloodAttends required meetingsFunction as an effective team member. Work cooperatively alongside physicians, nurses and other ancillary staffDisplay effective communicationEnhances professional growth and development through in service meetings and education programsMaintains patient confidentialityProvide quality Customer Service to the patients and visitors courteously and promptlyMust possess solid interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with co-workers, Management Staff, and PhysiciansMust be able to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member, balancing both the support of the physician(s) and following the financial policies established by OptumDemonstrate professionalism in appearance and actions with patients, staff, Physicians and Administrators at all timesMaintains confidentiality of patient informationTravel to all other draw stations and perform all tasksTroubleshoot problems within LIS and partner with LIS team to resolve outstanding issues.Including but not limited to:Follow handwashing protocolsPractice aseptic techniquesUtilize protective barriersUtilize personal protective equipment, e.g. gloves, lab coatsMaintain proper disposal of hazardous materialsDemonstrate knowledge of role in emergency disasterMaintain pace of over 4-6 patients per hourTravel to all other draw stations and perform all tasksPerforms other duties as assignedWhat are the reasons to consider working for UnitedHealth Group?
