Lead Respiratory Therapist

Job Title: Lead Respiratory Therapist Department: Unity Respiratory Therapy Location: Unity Hospital Hours Per Week: 36 hours Schedule: Night 3x12 hour shifts 6:30 pm to 7:00 am; every other weekend rotation Sign-On Bonus: up to $15,000 SUMMARY The Lead Respiratory Therapist functions as a working shift resource and provides direct oversight, assistance, support, and problem resolution to Respiratory Staff during assigned shift in all aspects of respiratory care, including organization of, assignment, and coverage of workloads. They model the Brand Promise and Core Values to deliver superior customer service. RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for all essential functions listed for the Registered Respiratory Therapist. Maintain high clinical standards in the assessment, administration, education, and observation of respiratory therapy as ordered by providers. Provide direct oversight, assistance, support, and problem resolution for Respiratory Staff during assigned shift, including organization, assignment, and coverage of workloads. Resolve call‑offs during shift and take call in a regular rotation to ensure adequate staffing for following shifts. Assist in current and continuing education and development of Respiratory Therapists, including competency programs and new employee orientation; actively support intradepartmental meetings. Assist in the development and implementation of clinical care policies, procedures, and protocols, ensuring consistency. Assist with ongoing evaluation, in‑servicing, and purchasing of equipment and supplies, providing input for departmental selection. Assist with respiratory rotations and clinical observations from multiple agencies and disciplines. Chair, develop, organize, oversee, and track one intradepartmental respiratory committee and serve on additional committees as requested. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent certificate. Recent acute care experience. At least 2 years of full‑time critical care experience in respiratory care (part‑time and per‑diem experience prorated). New York State Respiratory Therapist (RT) license with current registration. Current NBRC RRT credential required for all Respiratory Therapists entering the field after 9/1993. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree preferred. EDUCATION Associate of Science (AS) LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS RT – Respiratory Therapist – New York State Education Department (NYSED) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Medium work: exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly; requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
