In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is: $63,000 to $115,059. Salaries for internal applicants will be based on union negotiated calculations. This position may also be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a retirement plan and benefits for work life balance.

Reports To: School Principal and Director of Special Education or Designee

Job Goal: The School Nurse provides health services to students and staff in order to promote health, safety, and wellness within the school community. The School Nurse supports the educational process by addressing health-related barriers to learning and ensuring compliance with state and district health regulations.

The School Nurse works collaboratively with school staff, families, healthcare providers, and community agencies to support students' physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Provide preventive health services to support the physical, emotional, and social well-being of students.
• Conduct school health services including required screenings for vision, hearing, height/weight, and other state-mandated screenings.
• Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in accordance with district policy and applicable laws.
• Monitor student immunization records and ensure compliance with state immunization requirements.
• Identify health problems and refer students for appropriate medical, dental, or community services when necessary.
• Provide first aid and emergency care for students and staff in accordance with established protocols.
• Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency medical services when required.
• Administer medications and medical treatments in accordance with physician orders, district policy, and state regulations.
• Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions.
• Assist with the development and implementation of emergency health plans for students with medical needs.
• Promote healthy practices within the school environment.
• Provide health education and guidance to students, staff, and families when appropriate.
• Assist in the development and implementation of school health programs and initiatives.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns and follow-up care.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and Child Study Team members regarding student health needs.
• Consult with physicians, healthcare providers, and community agencies to coordinate services for students when appropriate.
• Provide guidance to school staff regarding health-related issues affecting students.
• Maintain health documentation and prepare reports as required by the district and state agencies.
• Monitor communicable diseases and advise on exclusion and readmission procedures in accordance with public health guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with applicable health regulations and district policies.
• Participate in professional development activities related to school nursing and student health services.
• Attend faculty meetings, committee meetings, and school events as required.
• Support school-wide initiatives promoting student health and safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
• Valid New Jersey School Nurse Certificate.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of New Jersey preferred.
• Prior nursing or related experience preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Required criminal history background check and eligibility to work in the United States.
• Must meet New Jersey First Act residency requirements (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7).
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be substituted as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education.

• Vision: (which may be corrected) to read small print; view a computer screen for prolonged periods
• Hearing: (which may be corrected) to answer telephones and tolerate exposure to noisy conditions

• Upper Body Mobility: use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arm to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise and lower head
• Strength: moderate to heavy lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying is occasionally required; to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 15 pounds on a frequent basis; ability to walk frequently

• Final appointment by the East Orange Board of Education in accordance with Board policies

Term of Employment: Ten-Month Work Year

Salary: Shall be in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the East Orange Board of Education and the East Orange Education Association (EOEA).
