Lead Bartender

Overview :


The Lead Bartender is responsible for safely and efficiently providing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and food while ensuring complete guest satisfaction. Additionally, this position will assist the Bar Supervisor in training, coaching, delegating, and overseeing bar staff duties and ensuring our guests receive a high level of customer service from all team members.


Tipped Employee Information (Pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)) - This is a tipped position; as such, it will pay a cash wage that is less than the regular minimum wage but is at least the minimum "tipped wage" per hour for your location, per federal, state, or local law. Lark will claim a tip credit. This tip credit cannot exceed the difference between the minimum required tipped cash hourly wage for your location, and the corresponding current minimum wage for non-tipped employees. The tip credit claimed by Lark cannot exceed the amount of tips received by the tipped employee, and all tips received by tipped employees are to be retained by the employee, except for a valid tip pooling arrangement limited to employees who customarily and regularly receive tips. The tip credit will not apply to any tipped employee unless the employee has been informed of these tip credit provisions, orally or in writing.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Job Duties:

• Assist Bar Supervisor in training, coaching, delegating and overseeing duties of bar staff, and ensuring our guests are receiving a high level of customer service from all team members. (Bar Supervisor is responsible for administering corrective actions.)
• Assist Bar Supervisor in maintaining par levels of wine, beer, liquor and bar supplies
• Assist in maintaining cleanliness, upkeep, organization and maintenance of the lounge space
• Engage guests in a professional manner with a warm greeting
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of food and beverage products, menus, additions and promotions; answer all questions about beverages and food; assess their needs and preferences to make suggestions
• Up-sell/suggestively sell food and beverages by describing each item in an appealing way to increase check average and broaden guest' experience
• Accurately ring in orders on POS (Point of sales) quickly, in proper sequence and use appropriate charges
• Assure needs of guests are continually being met in a courteous and professional manner throughout the duration of their visit
• Maintain food and beverage control (i.e., liquor portion control, age verification); follow guidelines and practices outlined in TIPs training
• Measure and mix beverages as ordered, in accordance with company procedures and policies
• Follow alcohol awareness procedures for preventing and handling intoxicated guests
• Stock the bar, polish glasses, fill ice bins, clean, and tasks necessary for smooth operation and guest service
• Promptly prepare bills for items ordered, collect and process payments, enter into POS system, make change correctly, and make charge transactions accurately
• Handle house bank and follow all cash handling procedures
• Reconcile and balance all sales transactions at the end of each shift; generate closing reports
• Arrange bottles, glasses and bar items in an attractive manner which meets our standards
• Pass all required job-related tests
• Properly wash glassware using bar sinks/and or dishwashers
• Safely use cleaning compounds and chemicals; comply with health and safety regulations, policies, procedures
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust and wipe when needed and appropriate
• Confirm all liquor, beer, and alcohol is locked at the end of shift

Safety Responsibilities


Prior to employees commencing their job duties, provide department/position specific safety orientation and safety training for any employees who are new to your department, or are assuming new duties. Provide ongoing safety training as needed or required. For example:

• If responsible for Kitchen or Food & Beverage staff, ensure that any hotel employees that will use a knife to prepare food (servers, bartenders, etc.) are properly trained in safe knife use.
• If responsible for Maintenance or Housekeeping staff, ensure they are familiar with OSHA workplace safety standards as they pertain to the hotel, safe lifting, use of ladders, use of chemicals.
• Promote the company Safety Policies and Procedures; participate in Safety Committee meetings; take appropriate action to remedy safety concerns.

• Review daily Time & Attendance punches in payroll. (Capture reasons for being tardy or absent.)
• Review and maintain timely and accurate "status" of employees for benefit plans, i.e., Full Time, Part Time and Terminations
• Train team how to punch in, out and transfer departments (holds employees accountable)
• Use meetings, memos, or bulletins to keep staff informed of hotel events, policies, etc.

Experience:


A minimum of 2 years of previous bartending experience is necessary; must be of legal age to serve alcohol; high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and work experience; TIPS certification required and Allergy Awareness training helpful.

Performance Measurement:
On-going feedback from supervisor, attendance, productivity, and feedback from staff, guest comments and scores.

Physical Demands:


Work is performed in a hotel environment. This position is physically demanding as it requires extended periods of walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Moderate to frequent levels of computer keying using both hands, and viewing material on a computer screen. Extended workdays may be required to accomplish tasks and meet workload demands during peak periods.
