Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee commercial structural steel erection projects from initial planning through completion. Based on-site in western Wisconsin, this position will manage multiple projects while maintaining accountability for budget performance, field coordination, scheduling, procurement, client communication, billing, and overall project execution. The Project Manager will work closely with field operations, subcontractors, vendors, fabricators, and customers to ensure projects are delivered profitably and to a high standard of service.

The ideal candidate brings strong commercial construction project management experience, a solid understanding of construction documents, and the ability to manage the financial and operational details of multiple concurrent projects. Direct structural steel erection experience is highly valued, particularly for candidates accustomed to coordinating field operations and managing technically demanding specialty-construction work. This role is well suited for a construction professional who wants meaningful ownership of projects within an established contractor experiencing continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage assigned structural steel erection and related construction projects from planning through completion, maintaining accountability for financial performance, schedule, quality, and client satisfaction.
• Review drawings, specifications, contracts, estimates, and supporting documentation to understand project scope, requirements, risks, and budget expectations.
• Coordinate with field operations to identify labor, equipment, material, and subcontracting needs and ensure project teams have the resources required for execution.
• Establish and maintain project information within the company's project management systems, tracking progress, costs, commitments, productivity, and financial projections.
• Lead ongoing coordination with clients, field leadership, subcontractors, vendors, fabricators, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and keep projects moving effectively.
• Monitor project financial performance through cost projections, productivity analysis, purchasing, subcontract administration, and billing support.
• Maintain accurate construction documentation and communicate project status, risks, changes, and financial considerations to appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
• Oversee multiple active projects while balancing field requirements, customer expectations, financial objectives, and changing project priorities.

Requirements

• Four-year degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 3 years of commercial construction project management experience.
• Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and work from construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and related project documentation.
• Experience managing project budgets, procurement, subcontractors, vendors, schedules, and field coordination.
• Strong understanding of commercial construction project delivery and the interaction between office project management and field operations.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong communication and relationship-management skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and project partners.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently from an on-site western Wisconsin office location.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience with structural steel erection, steel fabrication, miscellaneous metals, or closely related specialty construction.
• Five or more years of experience within the structural steel industry.
• Experience with On-Screen Takeoff or similar construction estimating and takeoff software.
• Previous experience managing commercial or industrial projects involving significant structural steel scope.
