About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med-Surg/Telemetry Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in specialty required License: Compact or state-specific nursing license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, CPI, NIHSS Must-Have: - Telemetry monitoring - Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias - Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management - Starting IVs - Titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips - Wound care and management Description: Travel nurses are expected to be aware of potential emergency assignments. Nurses may be assigned to an emergency team during critical events. Pay details related to emergency events will be communicated directly. Travelers should accept this condition when accepting the assignment. The unit accommodates first-time travelers with a minimum of 2 years of experience. Patient diagnoses include chest pain, CAD, PVD, arrhythmias, diabetes, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, renal failure, pulmonary embolism, CHF, and GI bleed. There is always the potential for medical-surgical overflow cases. Special procedures include pre/post-cath lab care, vascular surgeries, and administration of specific medication drips. Nurses may also be required to perform sheath pulls at the bedside. There is a likelihood of working every other holiday and floating to other inpatient units. Equipment used in this unit includes telemetry monitoring tools, chest tubes, PCAs, epidurals, and wound vacs. The patient ratio during day shifts is 6 patients to 1 nurse, and this remains consistent during nights and weekends. Interdisciplinary support is available from various services, including physical therapy and respiratory services. Nurses must be prepared for a dynamic patient care environment. The facility does not accept local travelers; candidates must reside over 65 miles from the assignment. All candidates must be familiar with isolation precautions and management of critical care procedures. NURSYS reports must be up-to-date prior to commencing employment.
