The Police Reserve Officer LEVEL II position is unpaid.
Summary Description
DEFINITION
Under supervision, patrols with a regular police officer in an assigned area in the City. Receives special assignments in related police work. Must attend scheduled training meetings once a month; required to work a minimum of 20 hours per month; and must attend and pass quarterly firearms qualification.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Assists in patrolling, either in a vehicle or on foot, an assigned area during an assigned shift and looks for indicators of possible criminal activity or threats to live and property; enforces City, county, and state laws; makes field contacts and completes forms; may conduct both preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, robberies, vehicle accidents, suspected homicides, and other criminal incidents.
2. Assists patrol officers in making arrests; serving warrants; interviewing victims, complainants, and witnesses; fingerprints and transports prisoners; and testifies in court.
3. Writes reports and field notes; participates in training meetings ; attends and participates in quarterly firearms qualifications .
4. Assists patrol officers in making traffic stops and with the issuance of warnings, citations, or arrests, as necessary; checks vehicles and observes vehicle occupants; investigates scenes of vehicle accidents; directs traffic; interviews drivers and witnesses and prepares reports; directs traffic at fire, special events , and other emergency or congested situations .
5. May participate in or be assigned to special programs such as crime prevention and investigations.
6. Establishes and maintains good relationships with the general public.

Ability to read, understand, and apply laws, regulations, policies rules and procedures; think clearly and act effectively in emergency situations; make clear and concise radio transmissions; observe a.-.d recall names, faces and details of incidents; write clear, concise, and accurate reports; understand and follow verbal and written directions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing ; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
Level II
Must have successfully completed a POST-approved Basic Police Recruit or Level II Reserve Academy. High School graduate or equivalent (GED).
Special Requirements Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license prior to appointment, and a satisfactory driving record. Candidates must be 21 years of age by date of appointment and have U.S. Citizen or permanent resident alien status; and must not possess any felony convictions. Candidates must meet standards of physical stature endurance, and agility established by the City. Vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye, 20/30 in other eye, uncorrected not greater than 20/100; normal color vision; and normal hearing.

Supplemental Information
All Police Reserve Officers will be subject to a livescan submitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and a full police background investigation for clearance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the ability- to perform the essential functions associated with a law enforcement officer; perform tasks requiring a full range of body motion ( e.g., lift, bend, reach, climb, walk, run, jump) ; visually distinguish red, amber, and green as part of normal color vision; hear horns, warning devices, radio transmissions, and frequency changes in the normal audio range; work in adverse weather conditions.
