Tool & Die Machinist ISigma Design has collaborated with a heavy industrial fabrication and machine shop seeking an experienced Tool & Die Machinist I to join their facility in Beaverton, OR. This company is one of the largest machine shops on the west coast. They have a long history of offering a wide range of equipment and services. We are open to candidates nationwide and provide relocation assistance for non – local candidates.Monday – Friday, 6:00 am – 2:30 pm$66,500 - $74,800 annuallyPrimary Function:The Tool & Die Machinist I supports manufacturing by producing, modifying, and maintaining precision tooling and fixtures used in production. This role interprets technical drawings and specifications to machine components, ensure tooling performs to required tolerances, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts. The position works hands-on with both manual and CNC equipment while collaborating with engineering and production teams to deliver reliable, high-quality tooling solutions.Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:Set up and operate manual and CNC equipment such as mills, lathes, and grinders to manufacture and repair toolingInterpret blueprints, sketches, and work instructions to build or modify dies, fixtures, gauges, and related componentsPlan machining approaches, calculate dimensions, and lay out materials for fabricationMeasure, mark, and prepare raw stock for machining processesTroubleshoot, maintain, and repair tooling to support ongoing production needsInspect completed parts to confirm compliance with specifications and tight tolerancesCreate simple tooling solutions to improve manufacturing efficiencyPartner with engineers to refine designs and implement tooling enhancementsAssemble and connect pneumatic elements used in fixturing applicationsUse precision measuring instruments and standard shop tools to perform work accuratelyProvide project support as needed, including coordinating tasks and timelinesTrain and mentor junior team members or apprentices on equipment and processesEducation and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in toolmaking, machining, or a similar manufacturing environment, or an equivalent mix of education and experienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or trade school training in machining or a related field preferredSolid understanding of tool construction methods, shop math, GD&T principles, and material characteristics.Demonstrated ability to machine to very tight tolerances (approximately ±0.0002").Experience with CNC programming and operation required.Familiarity with CAM software and general computer applications used in manufacturing.Knowledge of machining workflows, layout techniques, and assembly practices.Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.ITAR - Permanent resident of the United States ("U.S. person" as defined by ITAR)Background and drug screen - pass a post-offer background verification and drug screen.Work Environment: Standard machine shop environment with various types of machinery. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions.
