Lead Supply Technician

Summary This position serves as the Lead Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service. The Lead Supply Technician will ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics to provide wards – clinics – operating rooms – secondary storage locations – and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including but not limited to sterile and non‑sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by 07/23/2026. Time‑In‑Grade Requirement: Federal employees who have held a GS grade within the past 52 weeks must also meet the relevant time‑in‑grade requirement. For a GS‑06 position you must have served 52 weeks at GS‑05. Provide an SF‑50 that evidences time‑in‑grade eligibility; if the most recent SF‑50 is less than a year old, submit an additional SF‑50 that demonstrates one year of service. Specialized Experience: One full year of experience equivalent to the GS‑5 level in federal service that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this Lead Supply Technician position. This includes distributing supplies (sterile and non‑sterile), scanning, bar‑coding, receiving, storing, and distributing supplies, training new employees, maintaining current knowledge of procedures and policies, maintaining stock records, monitoring expiration dates, rotating stock, cleaning according to aseptic principles, and receiving supplies into the facility. Preferred Experience: Experience in a hospital, healthcare, or medical supply environment with responsibility for inventory management, supply distribution, and replenishment of clinical areas. Experience with automated inventory systems, maintaining accurate stock, and ensuring timely delivery of medical supplies to patient care units is highly desirable. Volunteer experience that translated to paid employment is also credited. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The work requires standing, walking, frequent bending, lifting, and pushing loaded carts (up to 100+ pounds). Supports use of ADP equipment such as bar‑code scanners, computers, and printers. The work area ranges from clean environments to hot, cold, drafty, or poorly lit spaces. Monitors status and progress of work and makes day‑to‑day adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines as necessary, and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems. Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services – including pulling stock inventory and material from inventory for delivery, replenishing stock inventory, interacting with customers to resolve issues, and maintaining records on stock levels. Performs inventory using bar‑code equipment and resolves differences between records and physical count of stock. Ensures areas are cleaned in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled. Receives supplies and materials into the catchment area, including unpacking/uncrating supplies from shipping cartons. Stores supplies and materials, ensuring sterility and integrity of the supplies and material as well as data integrity of the inventory management system. Works with clinical and administrative customers as well as outside vendors with tact and diplomacy to coordinate work activities and resolve operating issues pertaining to supply management requirements.
