Job Summary:
This position works under the general direction of the Quality Control Manager. The incumbent must be able to fulfill the duties of inspection as well as provide a technical skill set to assist Quality management in gathering data, producing quality reports, developing processes and quality standards. The incumbent must be able to interpret blueprints and assist shop personnel in forming, machining, and welding parts. Develop quality processes to ensure parts, weldments, assemblies, and complete machines meet Engineering specifications, PSO requirements, Quality specifications, and standards. The incumbent must understand the properties of metals and principles of welding processes as well as welding equipment. He/she must be acquainted with the American Welding Society standards and how they apply to TMW operation. The incumbent must have some mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical knowledge to apply to finished machine inspection. The incumbent must have excellent speaking and communication talents and supervisory abilities in working closely with production employees, production foreman, and superintendents of the production process.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Inspects welding as it is being performed to prevent failure caused by a lack of penetration, lack of fusion or other results of improper technique or inadequate performance. Also inspects for welding appearance criteria such as bead, shape, best penetration pattern, and lowest material consumption.
Checks blueprints and other workorder documents for compliance ---proper location of weld, proper materials, proper type of weld--and reports any discrepancies to the appropriate department or function for verification and/or correction, if necessary.
Reviews PSO, all change orders, and customer purchase orders to ensure proper identification of parts and conformity to customers specific requirements and takes pictures of unit for future reference.
Performs numerous assembly inspections on multiple models at different levels in the production process including- chassis checks, load tests, final rigouts, paint inspections, and CA process.
Develops technical reports from inspections and quality metrics related to parts, weldments, and complete machines and provides corrective action items.
The incumbent is responsible for administrating his/her area of responsibility with intensity, consistency, good judgement, and common sense. He/she is to display good management practices in the performance of these duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
Skills: Computer skills, MS Office, Excel, Word, data management, statistical analysis, problem solving skills.
Physical: The incumbent must be able to work a minimum of ten hours per workday, 5 day work week, and if the work load requires additional parts and material through increased production scheduling, or if the department should fall behind for any reason, additional hours may be required to meet the objectives of the production schedule.
The incumbent must be able to work under a stress-related environment involving exposure to normal welding and burning characteristics and must be able to remain on his/her feet, either walking, bending, twisting, reaching, or climbing (heights of 10-12 feet) for 90-95% of the workday.
The incumbent must have excellent speaking and communication talents and supervisory abilities in working closely with production employees, production foreman, superintendents, and other department heads of related departments.
Education and Experience:
2 Year Technical Degree or proven experience and technical skill that relates to the job.
