Medical Technologist or MLT - Core Testing

Description PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview, WA is seeking a Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician – Core Testing for a part‑time, 0.80 FTE, evening position. The salary range for Medical Technologist at PeaceHealth is $38.50 – $58.05. The salary range for Medical Lab Technician is $31.21 – $47.06. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, and more. This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting. Medical Technologist Job Profile Responsible for performing complex laboratory procedures and tests in areas such as blood bank, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology, using established protocols and procedures. Monitors, screens, and troubleshoots devices, tests, and procedures, recognizing anomalies and making corrections to ensure quality. Responsibilities Evaluates specimens for testing, applies appropriate criteria, and upholds established performance standards. Analyzes the entire process from preparation to test conduction, device functionality, and procedure quality to ensure accurate results. Performs waived, moderate, and high‑complexity laboratory tests. Maintains equipment and tools; performs quality assurance testing, routine calibration, and ensures optimal performance. Might assist the Technical Specialist or Supervisor with evaluations of new methods and procedures. Consults with clinicians, supervisors, and other caregivers regarding test results, requirements, and testing protocols. Directs and guides phlebotomy and specimen management teams, assists with orientation of new caregivers and students, and assesses competencies. Maintains appropriate records for specimens, tests, and data and uses computer systems for reporting and documentation. Participates in department in‑services and continuing education programs; attends lectures, workshops, and video presentations as required. Participates in competency assessments and proficiency testing. Provides compliance support (CAP, HIPAA, etc.). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science, Chemistry, Biological Science, or an equivalent related science. Preference given to candidates who have completed an accredited laboratory training program. Program or institution must be accredited by a regional or national accreditation agency. 2 years preferred: clinical experience performing high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory department. New graduates will be considered. Required: within one year, possession of a Medical Technologist or discipline‑specific certification (ASCP or equivalent such as AMT, AAB). Accepted certifications for non‑U.S. citizens include ASCPi, AMT, or CSMLS. Medical Laboratory Technician – Job Profile Responsible for performing complex laboratory procedures and tests in areas such as blood bank, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology, using established protocols and procedures. Monitors, screens, and troubleshoots devices, tests, and procedures, recognizing anomalies and making corrections to ensure quality. Responsibilities Collects, processes, and performs a variety of moderate and high‑complexity tests on specimens and completes all documentation for pre‑analytic, analytic, and post‑analytic activities. Maintains equipment and records; monitors tests and procedures to perform quality assurance activities related to test performance. Directs and guides phlebotomy and specimen management teams; may assist with department orientation for new caregivers and students. Consults with clinicians, supervisors, and other caregivers regarding test results, requirements, and testing protocols. Maintains appropriate records for specimens, tests, and data; uses computer systems for reporting and documentation. Participates in department in‑services and continuing education programs; attends lectures, workshops, and video presentations as required. Participates in competency assessment and proficiency testing; provides active compliance support (CAP, HIPAA, etc.). Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory staff or as delegated by the Laboratory Medical Director. Qualifications Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technician from an accredited laboratory training program or equivalent education as defined by CLIA 42CFR493.1489. Program or institution must be accredited by a regional or national accreditation agency. 2 years experience performing high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory department preferred. New graduates will be considered. Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) required within one year of date of hire.
