Summary With a commitment to patient and family centered care, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of licensed clinical team members in ways that value the uniqueness of each individual and address the physiological, emotional, and social needs of the diversity of patients served by Jefferson Health. May collaborate with all clinical departments (a/k/a/telehealth) and designated staff at the patient's site for the purpose of facilitating and assisting with telehealth encounters between patients and providers. Job Duties Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners. Performs validated and designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs under direction of licensed clinical team members. Actively promotes and maintains a safe patient care environment. Provides assistance in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations. Conducts patient rounds as assigned, anticipates patient needs, and answers/responds to patient call light or pages promptly. Might be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs. Might be required to facilitate, under the direction of the distant provider, a clinical exam including the utilization of peripheral devices (e.g., electronic stethoscope), other technology (e.g., video conferencing equipment) and software (e.g., Epic, Vidyo) to ensure a comprehensive virtual care encounter is conducted. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED. Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs and their role in interprofessional team. Ability to complete delegated tasks within scope of role. Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, and ability to apply this knowledge to patients in need daily. Knowledge of risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment and ability to take steps to reduce these risks. Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family and/or designated care partner in care. Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively. Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques, and ability to effectively transmit, receive and interpret ideas, information and needs using appropriate communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in health and health care. BLS – Basic Life Support (AHA – American Heart Association). Additional Qualifications LVHN colleagues must successfully complete LVHN’s inexperienced technical partner course upon hire. Physical Demands Lift and carry 40–50 lbs (e.g., push/pull patients on beds or stretchers requiring 29 lbs push force, lateral transfers up to 50 lbs of patient weight). Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters may walk 8–10 miles per shift. Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR. Work Shift Workday Day (United States of America).
