Connecticut Orthopaedics Medical AssistantFor the second year in a row, Connecticut Orthopaedics has been named the #1 Orthopaedic Physician Practice in Connecticut by Castle Connolly!The MA position provides direct support to the physician and assists with all aspects of the physician's practice. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: clinical scheduling, clinical patient flow, surgical and test authorization, scheduling and follow up, patient contact, and liaison with outside agencies.Essential Responsibilities:Booking provider requests for tests and surgeries for patients and obtaining authorizations, recording information in proper locationContacting outside facilities and processing related paperwork such as other physician offices, hospitals, and surgical centers and providing them with the necessary information to schedule tests and surgeriesFollowing up on surgical patients to ensure necessary pre-op and testing appointments have been completedContacting patients with pertinent information regarding their scheduled test or surgery and scheduling necessary follow up visitsEnsuring tests results are received before surgery; are reviewed and distributed appropriately (i.e. provider, facility, etc.)Accurately documenting necessary information in the computer system, such as pre-certification numbers, and chart for patients having tests and proceduresPreparing paperwork, x-rays, and other documents as needed for the physician to be available for him or her to take to surgeryAddressing patient concerns and questions as neededDirecting requests for worker compensation approval of tests and surgeries and other related information to the case managerPre-authorizing and calling in prescriptions and/or injectables for the physicianScheduling post-op and first physical therapy appointment and informing patientApplying casts, removing wound dressings, sutures, and castsFitting patients with durable medical equipment and braces appropriately and completing billing paperwork accuratelyPerforms other duties as assigned by their supervisorEducation & Experience Requirements:Certification from an Accredited Medical Assistant program or prior training, education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired leading to a Medical Assistant titleHigh school Diploma or equivalent (GED) requiredExperience as Medical Assistant or Medical Secretary preferredExperience working in an orthopaedic practice preferredLocation & Schedule:Monday- Friday 8:30am-5pmPrimarily located in Middlebury and Farmington with possible occasional travel to New Milford officeWhat We Offer:Medical, dental, and vision insuranceCompetitive compensation package, 401(k) contributions, and company-paid life insurance.Generous paid time off and paid holidays to support a healthy work-life balance.Access to training and development opportunities and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)Uniform allowanceFree ParkingConnecticut Orthopaedics (CO) has been serving patients in the greater New Haven area for over 60 years.
