Residential Program Manager

Company Description LIAFS – Long Island Adolescent and Family Services is a not-for-profit human service agency that provides residential services for youth across Long Island. With four program sites, LIAFS supports young people ages 12–21 through mental health counseling, substance use treatment, medical and dental care, education, recreation, independent living skills, and vocational training. The agency also offers supportive services for families to promote stability and healthy relationships. Founded in 1987, LIAFS serves more than 400 youth annually and has supported over 4,000 youth and their families since its inception. Role Description The Residential Program Manager is a full-time, on-site position based in Stony Brook, NY, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of a residential program for youth. This role manages program staff, schedules, and workflows to ensure consistent supervision, safety, and high-quality services for residents. The Residential Program Manager coordinates clinical, educational, recreational, and vocational services, ensuring that individual service plans are implemented and updated in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members. The role includes monitoring compliance with agency policies, licensing and regulatory standards, and documentation requirements, as well as tracking program outcomes and reporting to leadership. The Residential Program Manager also participates in crisis intervention, supports conflict resolution, builds relationships with youth and families, and contributes to staff training, performance evaluations, and continuous program improvement. Qualifications Experience in residential or community-based programs serving adolescents and families, with skills in youth engagement, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care. Background in program coordination and supervision, including staff leadership, scheduling, performance feedback, and team-building. Knowledge of case management practices, service planning, and collaboration with clinical, educational, and vocational providers. Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills to ensure compliance with agency, state, and licensing requirements. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with youth, families, colleagues, and external partners. Ability to maintain professional boundaries, exercise sound judgment, and respond calmly and constructively to emergencies or challenging situations. Proficiency with basic computer applications and electronic recordkeeping; comfort learning agency-specific systems. Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus. Prior supervisory experience and familiarity with New York State regulations related to residential youth programs are highly beneficial.
