Senior Supply Chain Planner

Job Description

Nordson Corporation is seeking a detail-oriented Supply Chain Buyer to support purchasing, material planning, and supply continuity for manufacturing operations at its Carlsbad, California location. This full-time, early-career professional role provides an opportunity to develop practical experience in procurement, production planning, inventory management, supplier communication, and enterprise resource planning systems. Working under the guidance of senior Supply Chain team members, the Supply Chain Planner/Buyer will review material requirements, maintain purchasing and planning data, communicate with suppliers, and help ensure materials are available to meet production schedules and customer requirements. The successful candidate will be organized, analytical, responsive, and comfortable working across multiple departments in a structured manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support purchasing and material-planning activities to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
• Create, update, and maintain purchase orders, delivery schedules, and supplier information in SAP and other business systems.
• Review material requirements planning, or MRP, reports and take appropriate action on routine material requirements.
• Monitor open purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to support accurate, on-time delivery.
• Communicate with suppliers regarding order status, delivery confirmations, schedule changes, and routine purchasing matters.
• Identify material shortages, delivery risks, and supplier concerns, escalating issues to senior team members when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, supplier, and planning information within applicable business systems.
• Collaborate with Buyers, Planners, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other cross-functional partners to support material availability.
• Assist with inventory-management activities, supply chain reporting, and data analysis.
• Follow established policies, procedures, and work instructions when completing assignments.
• Participate in continuous-improvement initiatives and other supply chain projects.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Two to five years of experience in supply chain, purchasing, planning, procurement, manufacturing, or a related business function.
• General understanding of purchasing, inventory management, production planning, procurement, or supply chain processes.
• Experience with an ERP platform such as SAP is preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
• Experience gained through internships, cooperative education assignments, academic programs, or prior employment may be considered.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow established procedures and complete routine assignments accurately.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to analyze information and apply standard practices to resolve routine issues.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a structured work environment.
• Collaborative approach and willingness to learn and develop professionally.
• Basic analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to communicate information clearly, ask relevant questions, and seek guidance when needed.
