Hospital-Based Psychiatrist - Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Psychiatry at Albany Medical Center is seeking a Hospital-Based Psychiatrist to join our academic faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine inpatient psychiatric care with resident and medical student education within a collaborative academic environment.

The selected candidate will provide inpatient team leadership and floor and ER consultation service while playing an active role in the education, supervision, and mentorship of psychiatry residents and Albany Med medical students as part of our ACGME-accredited residency training program.

The Department of Psychiatry includes a 26-bed acute inpatient unit, a consultation-liaison service seeing patients throughout the hospital, an outpatient psychiatry teaching clinic, an outpatient practice, and an integrated care program across multiple clinical sites. Our residency program includes 28 residents and provides training for Albany Medical College medical students, physician assistant students, psychology practicum students, interns, and post-doctoral fellows.

Responsibilities include:

• Provide direct hospital-based psychiatric care, including inpatient and consultation-liaison services and ECT

• Participate in psychiatric evaluations and management of patients in the hospital and emergency department

• Teach and supervise psychiatry residents and medical students in both clinical and didactic settings

• Collaborate with residency leadership to support resident education, evaluation, and mentorship

• Participate in curriculum development, scholarly activities, and quality improvement initiatives

• Serve on departmental and residency training committees as appropriate

• Contribute to weekend and department call schedules with additional compensation

• Research and academic interests are encouraged and supported

Requirements include:

• MD, DO or equivalent degree

• Board certified or board eligible in General Psychiatry

• Eligible for medical licensure in New York State

• Demonstrated interest in resident education and academic psychiatry

• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
