Lab/EKG Technician

Job Title

Performs EKG and obtains blood and other specimens from outpatients for laboratory testing according to licensed physician's or provider's orders.

Expected pay for this position is $18.85 - $21.21/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.

Position Summary

Performs EKG and obtains blood and other specimens from outpatients for laboratory testing according to licensed physician's or provider's orders. In doing so, obtains needed supplies, verifies patient identification with double identifier, prepares skin sites, and performs venipuncture, and skin punctures according to established aseptic techniques. Labels specimens in front of patient, processes specimens and prepares samples for transportation to the OSF System Laboratory for analysis. Performs clerical and/or computer duties associated with the Lab and EKG. Demonstrates the knowledge and Skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Maintains professional relationship with patients, Mission Partners, and physicians. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary by assigned area and/or shift.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• High School/GED
• Ability to regularly and timely travel between various sites.
• Analytical skills necessary for Phlebotomy requirements and specimen preparation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program OR 3 months' full-time phlebotomy experience or equivalent.
• EKG experience.
• Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program.
• CPR Certification- American Heart Association-BLS
• Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT)
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
