As a dynamic, innovative academic research unit, CHS is comprised of more than 3,400 undergraduate and graduate students and 131 faculty across seven academic units that include Communication Sciences and Disorders, Epidemiology, Health Behavior and Nutrition Sciences, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology (ranked #7 nationally according to the National Academy of Kinesiology), Medical and Molecular Sciences, and Physical Therapy (ranked #2 nationally by US News and World Report) and the School of Nursing. With annual research expenditures of approximately $20 million, the college currently houses a number of large, interdisciplinary grants with significant funding from federal (e.g., NIH) and foundation (e.g., American Heart Association) sponsors. The Grants Analyst II for CHS conducts financial management tasks for all assigned sponsored research portfolios. With minimal direction, they manage proposal and budget development and oversee post-award activities such as account setup, expense tracking, and reporting. This role requires excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively support faculty and staff on all sponsored project-related tasks and issues. The Grants Analyst II serves as a key resource for academic units and principal investigators (PIs) on all matters pertaining to contracts and grants. Major Responsibilities With minimal supervision, manage sponsored project portfolios from pre-award to post-award, including proposal development, budget management, annual reporting and sponsor compliance Prepare financial reports, analyze budget variances, and support project financial activities, including monthly reports and budget changes Provide guidance and support to faculty on sponsored research financial and budgetary activities, conduct transfer of sponsored projects for new faculty Assist with training and mentoring of new Grants Analyst I. Develop and implement policies to improve budget processes and ensure timely closeout of grants and contracts Contribute to a welcoming work environment that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion Perform other job-related duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of experience in academic research administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated skill and experience in federal, state, and foundation budget preparation, contract/grant management, and financial/budget planning in an academic setting. Proficient in advanced spreadsheet, database, financial management systems, and relational databases. Knowledge of PeopleSoft Grants processing software preferred. Ability to analyze budgetary expenditures for sponsor and institutional compliance, and quantify/illustrate complex reports and projections. Strong organizational, writing, and multitasking skills with attention to detail. Ability to interpret and apply guidelines/procedures, and communicate effectively with various stakeholders. Service-oriented approach to sponsored projects management with person/team-management and leadership skills. Position Differentiation: GRANTS ANALYST I and II To help candidates identify the appropriate grade and level, the following sections outline the specific requirements and expectations for each grade. Candidate level will be determined once finalist is selected and appropriate job description will be shared with the selected candidate. Minimum Qualifications: Grants Analyst I (Grade 29E) Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree with two years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). A degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred. Level of Autonomy: This position operates under the general direction of the Grants Manager. Candidates are expected to work independently and make appropriate decisions under limited direction while using a high level of independent judgment. Skill Set & Scope: The Analyst I focuses on accurate and timely grant submissions, budget verification, and compliance with University policies. They must be able to resolve a wide variety of intricate problems at the user level and provide support for the development of strategic initiatives. Leadership & Collaboration: This role acts as a liaison for matters pertaining to contracts and grants and provides assistance and support to the Grants Manager and/or Grants Analyst II on special tasks, such as account clean-ups and inactivation's. Minimum Qualifications: Grants Analyst II (Grade 30E) Qualifications & Experience: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience specifically in academic research administration. Demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and foundation budget preparation within an academic setting is required. Level of Autonomy: This level II position operates with minimal direction and minimal supervision. The Analyst II serves as a key resource for academic units and Principal Investigators (PIs) on all matters pertaining to contracts and grants. Skill Set & Scope: In addition to managing portfolios from pre-award to post-award, this role requires excellent problem-solving skills to support faculty on complex tasks. Unlike the Analyst I, the Analyst II is responsible for developing and implementing policies to improve overall budget processes. Leadership & Mentorship: A defining responsibility of this role is the training and mentoring of new Grants Analyst I staff. Candidates must demonstrate strong person/team-management and leadership skills.
