Orientation Leaders are required to attend all training sessions (spring UC3690 course and summer training) and work all scheduled Orientation program days. Applicants should be prepared to commit to this role as their primary summer obligation due to the time demands of training and program schedules. Follow-up Interviews will be offered in early November based on availability to select applicants. Selected applicants will be invited to participate in an interview process that may include both individual and group interviews. Posting Number 20161774 STD Department Summary The Office of New Student and Family Programs supports the transition and success of Ohio University students and their families. The office oversees Bobcat Student Orientation ( BSO ) , which welcomes and prepares new students for academic and community life at OHIO , as well as ongoing engagement opportunities for families throughout the year. This includes Family Weekend events and other initiatives designed to strengthen the connection between students, their supporters, and the university community. Through these programs, the office helps students build a strong foundation for their college experience while fostering a supportive network for families. Job Profile Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: Assists with planning and organizing University events, such as speakers, conferences, or campus gatherings. Duties include coordinating logistics, working with vendors, and managing event details to ensure smooth execution. Level Summary Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. Roles are entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments. Supervisory Responsibilities: Limited supervisory responsibilities. May supervise other student workers. Fiscal Responsibilities: No budgetary responsibility. Problem Solving: Addresses routine, well-defined problems under supervision. Independence of Action: Works under close supervision. Communication and Collaboration: Communicates primarily with supervisor and peers. Collaborates with team members to accomplish tasks. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a student leadership, peer mentor, ambassador, orientation, or similar role. Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and presentation skills. Experience facilitating group activities, discussions, or programs. Ability to build positive relationships and engage effectively with students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Demonstrated teamwork, dependability, professionalism, and adaptability. Familiarity with campus resources, services, traditions, and student life. Ability to represent the University in a welcoming, professional, and enthusiastic manner. Commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive transition experience for new students and families. Working Condition/Physical Demands: Navigating campus facilities and outdoor areas, including traveling between meeting locations and activity spaces. Remaining at designated meeting locations for extended periods of time to welcome, orient, and engage participants. Facilitating team-building activities and other interactive programming in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. Presenting and speaking clearly to groups, including from the front of a classroom or other instructional space. Maintaining active engagement with students through conversation, instruction, demonstrations, and group activities. Working in varying environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings, as required by program activities. Department Dean of Students Pay Rate $3,700 Stipend, Housing and Meal Plan included for time of employment. Summer Orientation Programs: Orientation Leaders work all program days on a scheduled rotation, with shifts typically lasting 8–10 hours per day .
