Solid Waste Collection DriverThis is a driving position working with the collection of solid waste, trash, brush, or recycled materials. The employee is required to operate a solid waste collection vehicle in tight, confined locations and in the presence of other vehicles and pedestrians. Work is performed under the direction of a Supervisor.Salary: $23.83 hourly rateJob Summary:This position involves operating various types of solid waste collection vehicles, including roll-off, rear-loader, automated side-loader, front-loader, and claw trucks. The work requires frequent driving, standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, pulling, pushing, and operating various types of equipment. The job's essential functions require sitting, standing, and walking eight (8) or ten (10) hours per day. The work requires frequent: bending/stooping, climbing (ladder and stairs), crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasional lifting/carrying objects weighing over 50 pounds.Emergency Response Status: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.Minimum Qualifications:Education and Experience:• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)• One year experience in the operation of commercial vehicles requiring a Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B• Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class BKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:• Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations• Knowledge of the operation of commercial vehicles requiring a Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B• Knowledge of the hazards of operation and of appropriate safety rules and regulations• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instruction and to work independently in the performance of regular duties• Basic computer and/or tablet skills for effective operation and troubleshooting of routing equipmentWork Environment & Physical Requirements:Work Environment: 5% inside a climate-controlled building; 95% outside which includes driving.Physical Requirements: The job's essential functions require: sitting, standing, and walking eight (8) or ten (10) hours per day.
