Software Engineer

Software Engineer position supporting the FAA's Terminal Flight Data Management (TFDM) program.
Location: Gaithersburg, MD.

Responsibilities

• Perform software development as needed for the TFDM system.
• Provide support to the build lead.
• Install, configure, and maintain software management tools.
• Develop and maintain software configuration management solutions.
• Articulate user needs and requirements from high‑level user stories.
• Develop the design for the user interface framework.
• Develop client‑side and server‑side components; analyze and design databases within an application.
• Work in an Agile Scrum environment.
• Develop scripts to collect metrics as needed.
• Support the Builds and Controls team.
• Correct and test problem reports.
• Code and test TCM scripts.
• Create customized scripts for linking to CAS products.

Qualifications

• Strong Java development and infrastructure skills.
• Experience with script development (Python, Ansible).
  Understanding of DevSecOps practices.
• Experience in full‑life cycle software development using both Agile and waterfall methodologies.
• Solid background in object‑oriented programming, particularly backend Java.
• Knowledge of aviation and air traffic control concepts.
• Experience with XML Schemas and definitions.
• Familiarity with the Atlassian Tool Suite, Jira, GIT, and Confluence.
• SQL knowledge (desired).
• Experience or domain knowledge of FAA Air Traffic (desired).
• Understanding of FAA-STD-026A NAS Software Development Standard.
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; minimum 5 years of experience.
