Non-Civil Service Permanent Full-time Department of Transportation Union Bargaining Unit J1 Bureau / Division Code Bureau / Division As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee with the Department of Transportation, Greene County, you will learn how to maintain and repair the equipment that supports vital transportation services. This position offers structured training and real-world experience every day. This position participates in a structured training program to learn how to maintain, diagnose, and repair many types of vehicles and equipment. The work supports safe and dependable transportation operations throughout Greene County. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee, you will perform the following duties: Repair Assistance: Help repair and overhaul vehicles and equipment while learning proper techniques Maintenance Tasks: Take part in preventative maintenance and routine servicing of equipment Diagnostics Training: Learn to identify mechanical issues using tools and diagnostic procedures Inspection Support: Participate in safety and emissions inspections and complete related forms Assist with maintaining accurate equipment records and reporting findings Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years as a Tradesman Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) working in the automotive field; Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; An equivalent combination of experience and training. This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent on the first day of employment. This position requires employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment. This position requires employees to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period. This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
