Description:

Summary: The Import Specialist will assist with the entrance of goods into the United States. This representative will be responsible for the preparation of clearance documents, forwarding them to Customs Brokers or directly to Customs, and arranging delivery of the freight once it is authorized. The candidate will ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and other applicable Government Agencies. They will handle the daily flow of import shipments as assigned by the Import Manager. Other duties include tracking the cargo prior to arrival to the port of entry, acquiring rates and bids from potential delivery agents and communicating with foreign offices regarding the shipping plan.

Essential Functions:  

· Ensure the company is compliant with all import regulations.

· Communicate directly with Customs and Border Protection to clear shipments.

· Prepare Delivery Orders and coordinate payments with airline handlers.

· Develop import shipment plans with origin stations.

· Assist with resolving problems that disrupt the shipping chain.

· Work directly with customers to create and execute transportation solutions.

· Support sales team initiatives on key import accounts.

· Aid clients with determining the correct HTS classification for their commodities.

· Attend Customs outreach programs when requested.

Competencies: 

· Solid understanding of international import and customs clearance procedures 

· Proficient in classifying commodities according to the HTS

· Knowledgeable in handling bonds, permits, licenses, carnets and related import documentation requirements

· Strong written and verbal skills

· Sound decision-making abilities with good judgement in complex situations

· Mathematical aptitude

Qualifications: 

· 3-5 years of experience in import operations or international forwarding experience

· Detailed knowledge of the import entry process and the documentation requirements to facilitate the clearance of goods into the United States.

· Demonstrative ability to communicate effectively with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials

· Familiarity with U.S. Customs Regulations.

· Knowledge and experience with government regulations impacting the import entry process.

· General understanding of U.S. Customs documents and the circumstances under which each are required.

· Experience with supporting the operation of a customs brokerage operation and knowledge of the necessary controls

· Familiarity with (C-TPAT), Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism program.

· Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or logistics or equivalent experience

In office, no remote or hybrid schedule

Frequently required to sit at a work station and communicate by phone or in person.
