POLICE OFFICER

General Statement of Job : Under occasional supervision, performs responsible law‑enforcement functions, including enforcing federal, state and local laws, exercising independent judgment, and operating under the policies of the Kissimmee Police Department. Reports to an assigned Sergeant. Essential Functions Respond to emergency or high‑risk situations; participate in criminal and other investigations. Perform general law‑enforcement duties such as patrolling, checking property for security, maintaining order and public safety, responding to traffic accidents and issuing citations. Apprehend and arrest suspects, interview witnesses and victims, collect evidence, take statements, and prepare cases for prosecution. Serve warrants, summonses, subpoenas and other official papers. Book and process prisoners. Provide public‑service duties including directing traffic at school crossings, escorting at special events, and providing security at City events. Report conditions that may affect community safety (lighting, pedestrian obstacles, hazardous conditions). Promote crime‑prevention and safety theories through educational programs, presentations and community outreach. Respond to citizen inquiries and refer the public to appropriate agencies. Maintain proficiency in firearm use, physical fitness, and operating police equipment. Participate in field training and attend required meetings. Additional Job Functions Process crime scenes. Perform related duties as required. Minimum Education and Training Preferably an A.A. or A.S. in criminal justice, completed law‑enforcement instruction and training, and a combination of education, training and experience that meets the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must maintain firearms proficiency, be physically qualified, possess state certification in law enforcement, and hold a valid Florida driver’s license. Required background check and Criminal Justice Security Awareness training, and FEMA 100, 200 and 700 Incident Command System certifications within six months of appointment. Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required Position requires at least 40 hours per week and may require a rotating schedule. Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate firearms, vehicles, office equipment, and radio systems, lift up to thirty pounds, and perform duties that require standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running and defending against assault. Must maintain a high level of physical fitness. Performance Indicators Demonstrate knowledge of law‑enforcement organization, policies, and procedures. Exercise sound judgment and comply with all legal and safety protocols. Maintain high standards of accuracy and timely completion of reports.
