Registered Nurse - Clinical - Short Stay

Job Summary The Registered Nurse (PRN) at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital is responsible for assessing, managing, directing, and providing nursing care during patients’ hospital stays, coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams, and following a patient/customer‑driven approach. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and reassessments, including age‑appropriate admission, transfer, and post‑op/post‑invasive procedure evaluations. Accurately and completely document findings in the medical record. Develop and implement patient‑specific care plans based on assessment data, diagnoses, lab results, physician orders, protocols, and other relevant information. Collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate daily care, provide and document nursing interventions, and manage medication, IV fluids, and parenteral nutrition according to policies. Educate patients and families on care, discharge planning, and self‑management. Communicate patient status, changes, and risks to physicians and other team members, and assist in procedures as needed. Perform specialized care for high‑risk patients, including restraint management, pain management, and abuse assessment, following established protocols. Maintain infection control and safety practices, document relevant events, and report risks via eSRM. Engage in performance‑improvement activities, evidence‑based practice, and unit goal development. Adhere to professional standards, maintain licensure and certifications, and participate in ongoing education and quality initiatives. Qualifications Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri. Experience in comprehensive nursing assessment, care planning, medication administration, and specialized care as described in responsibilities. Knowledge of infection control, safety protocols, and evidence‑based practice. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, patient‑centered environment and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
