As one of the largest eye care networks in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, we provide our teams with the training, technology, and support they need to thrive while making a difference in patients' lives. Together, we're building the future of eye care.
Our Mission
To deliver the best possible outcomes for our patients, serve and educate our provider network, and fulfill our commitment to our stakeholders.
Why Join Us? This opportunity provides a retina surgeon with:
•An established and growing referral network
•Strong relationships with community optometrists
•Existing patient demand
•A clear path to building a full practice within approximately six to twelve months
•Access to multiple clinical locations and established surgery centers
•Experienced clinical and operational support
•A collaborative, physician-led care environment
•The opportunity to build a lasting professional presence in the Chattanooga market
About the Role
SEES Group is seeking a clinically exceptional, fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon to join a well-established, medically focused ophthalmology practice in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
This position offers the opportunity to step into a strong, referral-driven environment with an established network of optometrists, ophthalmologists, and other medical providers. The need is the result of a physician transitioning to another region within the organization, creating an opportunity for the incoming surgeon to inherit existing demand and build a full practice quickly.
The ideal candidate is committed to excellent clinical outcomes, thoughtful surgical decision-making, ethical patient care, and collaborative relationships with referring providers. This role is well suited for a surgeon seeking a long-term practice environment with substantial growth potential, strong clinical support, and access to established ambulatory surgery centers.
What You'll Do
The position emphasizes appropriate risk stratification, consistent outcomes, clinical accessibility, and clear communication throughout the patient’s continuum of care. The retina surgeon will provide comprehensive medical and surgical care for patients with diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula. The anticipated clinical scope includes:
- Evaluation and management of medical and surgical retinal disease
- Age-related macular degeneration
- Diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema
- Retinal vascular disease
- Retinal tears and detachments
- Vitreous hemorrhage and other vitreoretinal disorders
- Macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and other macular conditions
- Intravitreal injections and retinal laser procedures
- Pars plana vitrectomy and other vitreoretinal surgical procedures
- Management of urgent and complex retina referrals
- Coordination of postoperative and shared care with referring providers
- Evidence-based adoption of advancing diagnostic and surgical technologies
The incoming surgeon will join an established ophthalmology group supported by ophthalmic technicians, regional leadership, and a substantial network of referring providers. Practice highlights include:
- Monday through Friday office hours, generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Approximately 25 to 50 patients per clinic day, depending on physician schedule and case mix
- Blocked operating-room time based on the surgeon’s clinical volume
- Coverage across approximately two to three offices and two ambulatory surgery centers
- Access to an organization-owned ASC with two operating rooms and an additional procedure room
- Established diagnostic capabilities, including OCT, fundus photography, B-scan ultrasonography, visual fields, optical biometry, and additional ophthalmic technology
- Ophthalmic technician support
- Shared group call, generally approximately one week every four to five weeks
- An expected practice ramp-up period of approximately six to twelve months
The practice is heavily referral-driven and maintains an established network of approximately 300 referring sources, with the majority of referrals originating from community optometrists.
SEES Group values strong relationships with optometric providers and supports appropriate shared-care and co-management models. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate consistently with referring providers and reinforce confidence that referred patients receive timely, expert, and thoughtful care.
Professional ExpectationsPhysicians joining SEES Group are expected to:
- Maintain the highest standards of clinical excellence, surgical integrity, and patient safety
- Exercise sound and consistent medical and surgical judgment
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, families, colleagues, and referring providers
- Provide timely updates to referring physicians
- Foster collaboration and mutual trust across a multidisciplinary clinical team
- Support shared-care arrangements when clinically appropriate
- Participate in quality-improvement and patient-safety initiatives
- Contribute positively to physician education, peer development, and practice culture
- Help strengthen access to high-quality retina care throughout the Nashville region
This role extends beyond the clinic and operating room. The successful candidate will help build and sustain a strong professional presence through:
- Relationship development with referring optometrists, ophthalmologists, and medical providers
- Participation in continuing education programs and professional meetings
- Clinical education and outreach to community providers
- Involvement in local, regional, or specialty medical organizations

- Representation of SEES Group as a clinical leader and advocate for collaborative, patient-centered eye care
