Step into a day where accuracy meets craft

You clock in, review a new set of blueprints, and visualize the sequence of operations before a single chip falls. You select fixtures, dial in tooling on a Haas or Fanuc-controlled machine, and run a careful trial to validate offsets. Throughout the shift, you verify tolerances with micrometers and height gauges, tweak feeds and speeds, and collaborate with engineers to solve tricky setups—all while keeping safety and preventive maintenance front and center.

What you'll do

• Set up and run conventional and special-purpose machines to produce metallic components to print.
• Apply machine shop theory, shop math, material machinability knowledge, and layout practices to plan and execute work.
• Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to define dimensions, tolerances, operation sequences, and setup needs.
• Measure, mark, and scribe reference points on stock to guide subsequent machining.
• Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials for saws, mills, grinders, burners, and drills.
• Calculate and set controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth/angle of cut.
• Start up and monitor machines to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions; adjust controls as required.
• Conduct trial runs to confirm accuracy of machine settings and program edits.
• Verify dimensions with micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks; hold specified tolerances.
• When needed, develop specifications from general descriptions and sketch parts or products to be fabricated.
• Partner with engineers and production to resolve machining and assembly challenges.
• Maintain safe operations by following safety procedures and regulations.
• Care for equipment through preventive maintenance, adherence to manufacturer instructions, troubleshooting, and calling for repairs when necessary.

Scope and reporting

This role owns the setup, operation, and adjustment of machining equipment to deliver precise metallic parts to specification, ensuring quality through inspection, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration. No direct or indirect reports.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience and skills

• 5+ years in manufacturing.
• Ability to edit CNC programs.
• Follow clear written and verbal instructions.
• Proficient in reading blueprints for IDs, ODs, surfaces, and simple geometries.
• Capable of machining to tolerance and using micrometers and depth micrometers for verification.
• Routinely lift 50 lbs or more; able to work in narrow spaces; climb, balance, stoop, and kneel.
• Experience with stainless and tool steel alloys preferred.

Work environment

• Regularly involves standing, sitting, walking, reaching, climbing/balancing, stooping/kneeling, talking/hearing, and handling tools/equipment.
• Vision needs include close, distance, and depth perception with ability to adjust focus.
• Overtime may be required based on workload, including weekdays and weekends.
• Duties are generally performed in an office environment with visits to the production site as needed.
