Production Manager

Job Description The Production Manager is responsible for: Managing the workforce to ensure that the production of lime or stone meets or exceeds specifications. Participating in safety training. Ensuring that preventive action is taken to avoid nonconformities relating to product, process, or the quality system. Participating in the coordination of repairs during outages to maintain a safe and effective flow of work and reduce downtime. Responsibilities Provide leadership to ensure all company safety rules and regulations in accordance with regulatory agencies are observed by employees, including planning the necessary resources in manpower and budgeting to accomplish site safety goals and administering safety initiatives. Interface with regulatory agencies as required. Ensure quality of product during the process and adjust production plans to meet customer requirements. Manage overtime requirements to meet sales, production, and maintenance requirements. Actively participate in the weekly scheduling meeting between maintenance and production. Provide technical and tactical support to the Maintenance Team, Engineer, and Production Supervisors. Ensure the execution of the daily production plan, explain significant variances from the plan, and provide leadership for improvements within the operations groups. Use the production modules under the SAP system. Ensure operations personnel perform quality work. Participate in the daily morning production meeting to communicate with production and maintenance. Oversee necessary arrangements to keep the plant running during breakdowns. Provide feedback to the maintenance team to support operational objectives. Provide feedback to the operation team on goals and expectations status. Qualifications Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Mining, Business, or a related field. 2+ years of managerial experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment; prior experience as a department manager or superintendent in larger facilities is also suitable; industry background in manufacturing related to mining, paper mills, steel plants, refractory, heavy equipment fabrication, stone processing, cement plants, etc. is preferred. Extensive knowledge and background in operations supply chain business processes, continuous manufacturing and production processes, and the contemporary concepts of continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing. Positive and proactive attitude with the ability to address issues and implement solutions. Demonstrable success in cultural turnaround is a plus. Proven in leading operational excellence through the application of behavior-based management. Prior experience demonstrating effective management skills. Demonstrable teamwork and maturity with a strong work ethic. Fluency in spoken and written English. Knowledge Knowledge of operational management. Knowledge of people management skills and experience working in a union environment. Experience in mining and/or heavy manufacturing industry. Technical credibility relating to the industry, with a preference for mining and kilns. Demonstrated ability to assess organizational and people issues, provide coaching and mentoring, and deliver solutions that improve facility performance. Skills Demonstrate the ability to lead in a peer environment without an authoritarian role. Possess skills in system, project, and people management and oversee various activities while motivating and guiding others to accomplish common goals. Demonstrate the ability to facilitate a team in achieving their goals through facilitation and leadership. Demonstrate conceptual thinking, with the skill to see the big picture and understand the wider knowledge in context with the organization’s strategy. Ability to maintain positive and responsive interpersonal relationships. Ability to work collaboratively with other departments. Mentors others and delegates tasks while being responsible to others. Organization and facilitation skills; planning and organizing, problem solving, analytical, decision making, multi-tasking. Possess a customer service focus that anticipates both internal and external customers in a manner that shows a commitment to continuous improvement and delivers a high quality output. Demonstrate strong reporting and presentation skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization. Manages conflict with a win-win approach. Strong analytical and technical aptitude. Ability to lead and support troubleshooting and problem solving of operational issues. Possess personal initiatives; self-starter. Demonstrated ability to assess organizational and people issues, provide coaching and mentoring, and deliver solutions that improve facility performance. Demonstrates the ability to apply appropriate conflict management strategies to ensure conflicts are resolved to the benefit of all parties. Establishes and maintains highly productive working relationships across the organization with all groups within the region and the company; demonstrates respect for conflicting points of view, listens to others, and builds strong working relationships. Demonstrates excellent technical writing and computer skills for producing SOP, reports, and other appropriate communications.
