Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a night shift position. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care for a diverse patient population, while demonstrating expertise in critical care nursing.

Shift Details

Shift: 12 hours, 7 PM - 7 AM
Weekend Expectations: Every other weekend
Floating Expectations: First to float to Medical/Surgical ICU (MSICU), Progressive Care Unit (PCCU) and care for boarders, up to four at a time.

Patient Population

The unit is equipped to handle a variety of critical conditions, including but not limited to:

Stroke (acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage)
Brain-related conditions (subdural hematoma, brain tumors, cerebral edema, hydrocephalus)
Respiratory issues (acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, ARDS, COPD exacerbation, asthma exacerbation)
Cardiac conditions (acute heart failure, pulmonary edema)
Metabolic disorders (acute kidney injury, diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state)
Gastrointestinal emergencies (gastrointestinal bleeding, acute liver failure)
Sepsis and septic shock
Severe electrolyte abnormalities

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a critical care setting
BLS and ACLS certifications required
Ability to pass ECG exam on the second day of employment (pass/fail)

Unit Operations

Bed Capacity: 16 beds
Nurse-Patient Ratio: 1:2
Clinical Tech Support: Two clinical technicians available for 16 patients
Required to read own telemetry strips (Monitors: Philips brand)
Equipment: Mechanical ventilators, high-flow nasal cannulas, noninvasive ventilation (BiPAP/CPAP)

Titration of Drips

Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips. Common titratable drips include:

Norepinephrine (Levophed)
Epinephrine
Phenylephrine (Neo-Synephrine)
Dopamine
Vasopressin (typically administered at a set rate)

Holiday Requirements

Employees are expected to work one major and one minor holiday each year. Major holidays include:

Christmas Eve/Christmas Day
New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
Thanksgiving Day/Day after Thanksgiving

Minor holidays include:

Labor Day
4th of July
Memorial Day
