Field Technician
LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking Field Technicians to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in maintaining, modernizing, and upgrading National Airspace System (NAS) telecommunications infrastructure. This position requires extensive travel and direct field support at FAA sites nationwide. Candidates must have hands-on experience supporting telecommunications systems, network installations, electrical installations, and light construction work in operational environments. Prior FAA experience is highly desirable, and FAA contractor experience is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities - Essential Job Functions may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Support FAA telecommunications programs related to the operation and maintenance of systems used in Air Traffic Control (ATC) operations.
- Install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot telecommunications infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, IP services, routers, modems, PBX/VoIP, and related systems.
- Perform technical site surveys, document site conditions, and assist in developing installation plans in coordination with FAA stakeholders.
- Support FAA telecommunications cutovers, restorations, service improvement activities, and trouble ticket resolution.
- Conduct light construction, trenching, grounding, and low-voltage electrical work in support of infrastructure upgrades.
- Install, align, and remove antennas and waveguide when required.
- Maintain detailed as-built records, repair documentation, and post-outage reports.
- Ensure all work complies with FAA safety requirements, telecommunications standards, and Government regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of direct experience maintaining telecommunications and/or enterprise network systems.
- Experience with network topology, cabling infrastructure, jacks, and related installation practices.
- Working knowledge of telecommunications technologies, including multiplexers, analog and digital voice/data services, and IP theory.
- Ability to work around critical operational equipment in active FAA environments.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the United States for extended periods.
- Ability to climb towers and work at heights, if required, in accordance with safety requirements.
- Experience in light construction, trenching, grounding, and low-voltage electrical installation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or high school diploma with 10+ years of relevant experience.
- FAA or federal telecommunications installation experience, especially at remote FAA facilities.
- Experience with microwave, LTE, VSAT, VoIP, or fiber optic systems.
- Tower climbing, fiber optics, or network systems certifications.
Additional Requirements
- Must be eligible to obtain FAA suitability and U.S. Government public trust clearance.
- Must have a clean driving record and provide an MVR upon request.
- Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, work with power tools, and operate in varied weather and terrain conditions.
