About the Position

Job Title: Med/Tele/PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights, Every Other Weekend Hours per Shift: 48 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: PCU experience; ability to read strips Description: Unit Notes: This is a Med/Tele RN position. Certifications required include BLS and ACLS. Candidates must have PCU experience. They should be able to read cardiac strips. The unit has 32 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5, with occasional 5-6 on nights. PCU level care overflow will be managed at a 1:3 ratio. Common diagnoses and types of patients include adults and geriatrics. Patients may present with cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, Covid Bipap, and occasional general surgical cases with heart history. Medical patients may have cardiac history, pneumonia with Covid, acute on chronic conditions, and influenza or sepsis. Experience required includes Tele/cardiac nursing with PCU experience. Knowledge of Epic is preferred, and first-time travelers are welcome. RNs are required to titrate drips. Titrable drips and set rate drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, and Lasix. Low dose Dopamine may also be used, but no Levo is administered. There is a Charge Nurse on each shift, and they may take an assignment. Charge Nurses occasionally manage a light load of 2-3 patients. Nurse aides or patient care techs are present on the unit, with a goal ratio of 1:10. Respiratory equipment such as Bipap, trachs, and airvo will be used for troubleshooting only. Tele/Monitor Technicians will be available on the unit. RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own strips. Shift schedule includes 7a-7p and 7p-7a. Rotating shifts may not occur more than weekly. The Manager will create the schedule, considering blocked scheduling based on unit needs. Weekend requirements include every other weekend, and holiday requirements also follow the same pattern. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating is expected to all areas as needed, including full PCU patient loads, Medical/Surgical assignments, and some ER Holds/boarding. Scrub colors are flexible, allowing any color scrubs. There will be 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation. Each shift is 12 hours, with orientation beginning on Friday and Saturday of the first week. Additional notes indicate that this is more of a tele/cardiac unit. Candidates must meet the radius rule of 50 miles, and they may not be associated as full-time, part-time, or PRN with any partner facilities. Requests for time off should be submitted upfront and may not exceed 7 days for the entire contract period. Additional time off requests will not be approved. Cancellation policy states that up to 4 shifts may be canceled per contract, or 3 shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks. The charting system used is Epic. A BSN is not required for this position. This is a trauma level 2 care setting. The division is nursing. Shift notes include every other weekend and nights, with the nurse being the first to float. Required certifications include ACLS and BLS.
