Physician for Division Director - Pediatric Genetics & Metabolism - (Assistant, Associate & Professor - Academic Track or Assistant Professor - Tenured Track)

Our organization is in search of a board-certified or eligible MD/DO Physician in Pediatrics and Medical Genetics and Genomics. This position is available at the rank of Associate or Professor on the Academic Track, or Assistant Professor on the Tenured Track, within the Department of Pediatrics: Division of Pediatric Genetics & Metabolism. The selected candidate will also take on the role of Division Director and may lead the Rare Disease Center of Excellence, contingent upon relevant interests, experience, and training.

Position Highlights:

• The role entails up to 60% clinical responsibilities for both children and adults. An additional 30% will focus on transforming the Pediatric Genetics Division into a hub for genetic and genomic research, fostering interdisciplinary and inter-institutional clinical and research collaborations, as well as educating medical students, residents, and fellows.

• As the Director of the Rare Disease Center of Excellence, you will oversee clinical operations and research initiatives.

• The ideal candidate should possess a well-established research program centered on the molecular and cellular foundations of rare diseases, innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, or the application of new genomic technologies.

• You will work to forge partnerships between pediatric and adult medicine to ensure comprehensive care for individuals with genetic disorders throughout their lifespan.

• You will join a dedicated team of 6 geneticists and 1 Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider within our Pediatric Genetics & Metabolism Division.

• Collaboration with a productive group of 10 Genetic Counselors will be part of your responsibilities.

• You will engage in meaningful interactions with the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, as well as collaborate with a large Maternal-Fetal Medicine program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

• Your care will extend to a diverse patient population across Minnesota and the surrounding region, including many individuals with complex disorders. We are recognized as the largest Genetics service in the area, addressing a wide array of conditions.

About the Department:

The Department of Pediatrics is a vibrant academic entity with over 380 full-time faculty members and ranks among the top 10 nationally for NIH funding. Pediatric patients receive care at our state-of-the-art facility, the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital, which opened in 2011.

About the Division:

The Division of Pediatric Genetics and Metabolism is dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care through a commitment to scientific collaboration and interdisciplinary efforts. Our faculty are highly engaged, and the Department of Pediatrics offers robust support for faculty development. The division boasts a strong research portfolio and collaborates with various pediatric specialists across the department.

Recently, the Division spearheaded the establishment of a National Organization of Rare Disorders-recognized Rare Disease Center of Excellence (RDCoE) within the Department of Pediatrics and Medical School, positioning it as a leader in rare disease research and innovative clinical care programs.

Numerous Programs and Centers throughout the Medical School and University are available for collaboration, including the Gene Therapy Center, Institute for Personalized Medicine, Mucopolysaccharidosis Center, ALD and Leukodystrophy Center, Neurodevelopmental Program in Rare Disease, Lysosomal Disease Network, UMN Genomics Center, and Center for Orphan Drug Research.
