Custodial Worker

Isle of Wight County is recruiting for part-time on-call Custodial Workers who will fill in as a substitute Custodial Worker as needed to perform cleaning duties related to the operation of assigned County Buildings.

Examples of duties include cleaning restrooms, replenishing restrooms, emptying trash and recycle bins, cleaning desks and tables in conference rooms, vacuuming offices and common areas, cleaning interior glass and drinking fountains, dusting partitions, cabinets and vents, mopping floors, cleaning elevators and shining stainless, operating chemical dispensing units, properly measuring chemicals, understanding how to read MSDS sheets, properly labeling chemicals, wearing proper PPE when working with chemicals, and observing all approved safety and health policies and procedures.

Physical demands include exerting up to 50 pounds of force, using fingers, balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pushing, pulling, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma/GED and some general custodial/cleaning experience.

The positions are part-time, on-call, as needed to fill in as a substitute Custodial Worker, generally working Monday - Friday from 5pm - 9pm. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as there are multiple positions to be filled. Please note: all County employees may be required to report to serve our customers during emergency conditions. While some will perform their regular duties, others may be assigned to report at a different time and location and to perform different duties from their regular jobs. Employees will either be deemed essential personnel and provide services that must continue regardless of or pursuant to a state of emergency or will be deemed nonessential personnel that will be required to report to work in an emergency if they receive an assignment to shelter duty or other duty.
