Sr Financial Counselor- Revenue Cycle- New Orleans

This job is responsible for assisting patients for all billing inquiries across the organization in a face‑to‑face arena. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, reviewing all aspects of the patient’s bill, collecting liability for upcoming procedure(s), collecting residual and past‑due balances, reviewing alternate options for benefit coverage for both medical and pharmaceutical services, securing authorizations, setting up fee arrangements, and back‑filling for coverage at other locations. The position also handles more complicated, in‑depth, and escalated inquiries, provides estimates for services, coordinates special projects, processes adjustments, corrects posted payments, and serves as the expert for departmental processes and procedures, providing coaching/training to staff. The job ensures the best patient experience through timely and accurate assistance. Responsibilities Assist patients in face‑to‑face and remote settings regarding billing inquiries and account assistance. Review patient bills, collect liability, and manage residual and past‑due balances. Explore benefit coverage options for medical and pharmaceutical services. Obtain authorizations and set fee arrangements. Handle complex, escalated inquiries and provide accurate estimates for upcoming procedures. Coordinate special projects and process adjustments. Correct posted payments and maintain accurate financial records. Provide coaching and training to staff; act as expert on departmental procedures. Education High School diploma or equivalent (required) Bachelor’s degree (preferred) Work Experience 2 years of customer service, healthcare, or office experience (required) 1 year in a healthcare business office (preferred) Collections/Customer Service Experience Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Bilingual (preferred) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and patient information retrieval. Effective verbal and written communication, ability to present information clearly. Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and related software. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask and manage a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment. Ability to remain calm and professional in high‑pressure or stressful situations. Organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Independent decision‑making and minimal supervision. Coaching and constructive feedback abilities. Problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and robust follow‑up. Teamwork orientation and independent work capability. Other related duties as required. Reliable transportation for occasional travel. Job Duties Promptly and courteously assist patients with accounts or services via face‑to‑face, e‑mail, fax, mail, or phone. Act as liaison between patient, providers, and other departments to ensure proper charge application and resolved balances. Educate patients on financial responsibility and available assistance options. Ensure authorizations are timely and provide accurate estimates for procedures. Provide best‑in‑class service to maximize patient satisfaction; represent the organization with professionalism. Collaborate with clinical staff on benefits, pricing, authorizations, denial reviews, appeals, and physician adjustment requests. Assist supervisors with escalated inquiries and daily department operations. Support new hire and ongoing staff training/coaching. Conduct complex research into patient accounts for adjustments. Physical and Environmental Demands Primarily sedentary work with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds. No routine exposure to blood or body fluids, though potential exposure may occur.
