Radar Engineer Lead

Overview Amentum is seeking a Radar Engineer Lead to support the Space Force Range Contract (SFRC). The role focuses on designing, developing, modifying, evaluating and implementing radar hardware systems and providing technical leadership. Responsibilities Designs, develops, modifies, evaluates and implements new and existing radar hardware systems. Supports the radar lead engineer with the technical aspects of a project and the supporting multidisciplinary project team. Researches, designs, develops, modifies, and implements highly complex, new and/or existing capabilities for range radar support hardware systems. Assists with the development of complex systems modeling, simulation, and analysis to provide the most appropriate technical solution. Supports complex Level 1, 2, and 3 testing to qualify hardware systems for range operations. Plans, conducts, and assists in the execution of projects. Develops, recommends, and implements design approaches for products and/or processes. Coordinates the efforts of technical support personnel for assigned projects. Analyzes, develops, recommends and implements approaches to meet range requirements. Reviews literature, patents and current practices to support business requirements and/or new industry technology. Prepares reports regarding new technology to communicate to appropriate personnel. Evaluates component suppliers and vendor capabilities; acts as liaison with approved vendors/suppliers to maintain product/process availability. Serves as an interface for project information to internal management and customers. Develops an understanding of range radars, including transmitters, receivers, antennas and control systems. Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel. Assists depot with problematic repairs of line‑replaceable units (LRUs). Provides expertise to Level 2 requests for engineering assistance to restore operational systems. Identifies, documents, and prioritizes radar subsystem needs/deficiencies/inefficiencies in support of the western range. Supports development of risk statements. Required Skills Ability to effectively communicate technical issues verbally and through written media such as graphical slides and presentations to contract management and customers. Ability to read and understand wire diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills. Strong organizational and time‑management skills to balance, plan, prioritize, and execute projects. Strong leadership and conflict‑management skills. Good human relations and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external support personnel and provide guidance to less experienced engineers. Ability to work within a dynamic, fast‑paced environment with time constraints. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Required Experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other technical STEM field. 5+ years of working experience with RF and radar systems. Experience working with Windows‑based computer systems and components and the Office tool suite. Experience providing inputs to complex project proposals within defined time constraints involving multidisciplinary teams. Fundamental knowledge of RF including local oscillators, doublers, mixers, programmable and fixed attenuators and amplifiers. Fundamental knowledge of radar tracking antenna systems, including servo systems. Working knowledge of monopulse radar tracking systems and/or shipboard radar systems desirable. Experience working with high‑power tube and solid‑state RF amplifiers. Experience with C‑band pulsed Doppler tracking and wideband coherent imaging systems desirable. Familiar with legacy range radars types (AN/FPQ‑6, AN/FPQ‑14, AN/FPS‑16) desirable. Familiarization with digital interface design including interface modules, cable/wire types and connector systems. Fundamental knowledge of hardware systems integration and testing. Fundamental knowledge of the engineering lifecycle and systems engineering processes. General knowledge of instrumentation systems troubleshooting. Proficient in use of specialized test equipment including VOMs, spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes. Fundamental knowledge in technical writing for development of technical reports (white papers) and other technical support documentation. Familiarization with computer systems including single‑board (SBCs), servers, and workstations. Familiarization with Linux and Windows operating systems. Salary and Compensation The annual starting salary for this position is between $130,000 and $150,000, depending on geography, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.
