Specialist, Lifesaving Outcomes (Temporary) Location: 2005 S 1100 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84106 Hiring Range: $19.50 to $22.00 hourly Duration: June 2026 – November 2026 Summary Outcomes Specialists connect pets with adoptive families through superior customer service and relationship building, ensuring a successful match for both animal and family. The role supports Best Friends Animal Society’s no‑kill mission and may include tasks in other lifesaving outcome‑focused programs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrate kindness, inclusion, and respect for all individuals and foster a welcoming environment. Promote, coordinate, and facilitate animal placements, matching adopters with pets and providing counseling on pet history, needs, and post‑adoption support. Support pet adoption opportunities through events, off‑site meets, and retention efforts. Deliver superior customer service to adopters, fosters, and transfer partners, gathering necessary information and arranging introductions. Create a welcoming environment to enhance visitor satisfaction and engage individuals in the organization’s mission. Assist volunteers with protocols, animal care, transportation, data entry, and communications to maximize volunteer contributions. Develop detailed knowledge of Best Friends programs to match animals with clients effectively. Oversee creation of engaging content for social media and collaborate with marketing teams. Assist with basic animal care tasks such as feeding, cleaning, walking, and medicating within approved procedures. Collaborate with team members to develop and implement efficient operational processes. Maintain a safe workplace, modeling safe practices and reporting unsafe conditions. Skills and Experience High School Diploma, GED, or 1‑2 years of customer service or animal‑related experience. Experience in an animal shelter environment (preferred). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Bilingual or multi‑lingual skills preferred. Customer‑centric, non‑judgmental approach to engaging adopters and volunteers. Ability to handle cats and dogs, including those with health or behavior concerns. Team player with strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with shelter or animal management software. Physical Requirements Routine lifting of 40 pounds and perform daily strenuous activity such as lifting, carrying, and bending. Repetitive tasks for extended periods, including typing, sitting, walking, and arm/hand motions. Work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Exposure to dogs, cats, and other animals.
