The City of Port Townsend is recruiting to fill one vacancy in our Public Works Department at either the Director or Deputy Director level, depending on qualifications. Leading an engineering department in the small community of Port Townsend provides a great opportunity to use true engineering ingenuity, especially as it relates to non-motorized transportation, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure planning. Water is the name of the game in Port Townsend whether addressing capital need for our 30-mile water supply pipeline, protecting the shoreline against erosion, or kayaking, fishing, sailing, diving, etc. Located in Western Washington, Port Townsend has only 20 inches of rain per year. Come help us make this corner of the world a little better than we found it.Occasional remote work may be allowed per City policy and approval of the supervisor.Complete job descriptions can be found here.Public Works DirectorSalary range: $147,538-182,947 Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering or a related field.Minimum of seven years of professional level public works experience with at least three years of supervisory and managerial responsibilities including working knowledge of public works administration, wastewater, water, transportation and maintenance operations in a municipal agency.An extensive combination of directly relevant experience and training may substitute for formal education. Valid Washington Driver's License and maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.Preferred qualificationsA Master's degree in a related field.Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer. Deputy Public Works Director/City EngineerSalary range: $133,821-165,938Minimum requirementsLicensed engineer in the State of Washington or the ability to obtain a license within 6 months of hireGraduation from college with a degree in civil engineering or closely related fieldA minimum of 6 years of experience as a practicing licensed engineer, 4 years of which is in a management role 2 years of experience working in a municipal engineering environmentValid Washington State Driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
