Director of Business Development

A growing organization in the nuclear services and waste management sector is seeking a senior Business Development leader to support federal growth initiatives at a major Department of Energy site in Washington State. This role will serve as the company’s primary on-site representative, helping expand its presence within the federal nuclear cleanup and waste management market. The position blends business development, capture strategy, technical solution development, customer relationship management, and execution support. The ideal candidate will bring a strong network within the DOE contractor ecosystem, hands-on experience with federal nuclear or waste management programs, and the ability to identify opportunities, shape solutions, and help move work from early-stage pursuit through successful execution. Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary company representative at a major DOE site, developing and maintaining strong relationships with federal customers, site contractors, teaming partners, and key stakeholders. Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities within DOE, federal cleanup, nuclear waste management, and related contractor environments. Lead capture activities, including opportunity assessment, win strategy, pricing input, proposal coordination, and technical positioning. Support proposal development by working closely with internal technical, operations, licensing, and commercial teams. Help develop practical waste management solutions involving characterization, packaging, transportation, treatment, and disposal. Support awarded work by ensuring field execution remains aligned with proposal assumptions, customer expectations, contract requirements, and internal capabilities. Monitor federal market activity, site priorities, upcoming procurements, competitor positioning, and customer needs. Participate in customer meetings, technical discussions, site visits, sales calls, and strategic planning sessions. Prepare clear technical, commercial, and management-level reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders. Help integrate company services into ongoing and future work at the customer site. Develop alternative technical and commercial approaches for federal procurements when appropriate. Collaborate across departments to ensure customer commitments are realistic, compliant, and executable. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, or a related technical field required; advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 15 years of experience in DOE programs, nuclear waste management, environmental services, project management, federal business development, capture management, or a closely related field. Direct experience supporting work at or around the Hanford Site is required. Established professional network within the Hanford / DOE contractor community. Strong understanding of federal nuclear cleanup, waste management, environmental remediation, and/or radioactive waste services. Proven experience identifying opportunities, developing customer relationships, supporting proposals, and contributing to contract wins. Ability to work effectively with DOE representatives, prime contractors, subcontractors, technical teams, and senior leadership. Strong understanding of DOE, NRC, EPA, and related regulatory requirements. Experience developing or supporting technical approaches for complex federal procurements. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present clearly to senior stakeholders, technical audiences, and customer groups. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, spreadsheets, databases, internet research, and business systems. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in a business development, capture management, project leadership, or program management role within the federal nuclear cleanup market. Existing relationships with DOE site contractors, procurement teams, project leaders, and technical decision-makers. Experience with waste characterization, packaging, transportation, disposal pathways, and field execution planning. Familiarity with proposal pricing, contract negotiation, teaming strategy, and federal procurement processes.
