Job Description

The Production Associate supports the safe and efficient manufacturing of fertilizer products by handling raw materials, operating basic tools and equipment, and performing quality and housekeeping tasks in a fast-paced industrial environment. This role involves working both indoors and outdoors, managing physically demanding duties, and contributing to a close-knit team in a growing operation.

Responsibilities

• Handle and transport raw materials safely using appropriate tools and equipment such as shovels and other manual tools.
• Mix materials with minerals into tanks according to production specifications.
• Lift and move finished product into containers to prepare for storage or shipment.
• Assist with loading trucks and outbound shipments in a safe and efficient manner.
• Monitor the production process to ensure products meet required specifications and standards.
• Conduct basic quality checks on materials and finished products to identify any issues.
• Perform general housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Identify equipment issues and promptly report them to management for resolution.
• Work comfortably indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, including areas with strong, farm-like odors.
• Safely wear and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Stand, bend, lift, and climb stairs or ladders throughout the duration of the shift.
• Lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.
• Demonstrate basic mechanical aptitude when working with tools, equipment, and machinery.
• Be willing to cross-train and learn additional tasks, including potential forklift and machine operation.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous experience in manufacturing, agriculture, fertilizer, or industrial environments.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more regularly throughout the shift.
• Ability to wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Comfort working around fertilizer and strong, pungent smells similar to a farm environment.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
• Basic mechanical aptitude for working with tools and equipment.
• Ability to stand, bend, lift, and climb stairs or ladders for the entire shift period.
• Reliability and willingness to follow production specifications and safety procedures.
• Steel-toe footwear (must have steel-toe shoes or boots).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• General production or manufacturing experience, including working with packaging equipment and shovels.
• Experience in agriculture, farm work, or general labor in industrial settings.
• Experience as a farm hand or in roles requiring regular heavy lifting.
• Former forklift experience or machine operation Experience, with willingness to be trained further.
• Comfort working in a fertilizer plant that processes animal waste into pellets.
• Ability to work afternoon shifts (noon–8 p.m.) and overnight shifts (8 p.m.–5 a.m.) as needed.
• Strong teamwork skills and ability to contribute to a close-knit, collaborative environment.
• Willingness to support a growing operation and adapt to changing production needs.

Work Environment

The role is based in a fertilizer plant that produces pellets from animal waste for agricultural customers. Employees work in areas with strong, farm-like odors and must be comfortable with pungent smells associated with fertilizer production. The environment includes both indoor and outdoor work in an industrial setting, with regular use of tools such as shovels and basic mechanical equipment. Shifts include afternoon hours from noon to 8 p.m. and overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., supporting a growing operation that is expanding toward 24/7 production. Steel-toe footwear and PPE are required, and the facility emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and teamwork. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fair Oaks, IN.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
