Job Title: General Laborer Job Description

This role supports an industrial shop by assisting with jackhammering asphalt to prepare for rebuilding asphalt machines and helping with equipment maintenance, cleaning, demolition, and rebuild operations. You will work in a hands-on industrial environment using air tools, hand tools, and power tools while performing physically demanding tasks in a small, tight-knit team.

• Use a jackhammer to break up asphalt in and around asphalt conveyors to prepare equipment for rebuilds.
• Assist with rebuilding asphalt machines, including disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of components over multi-week projects.
• Support industrial equipment maintenance by helping replace parts under the direction of experienced technicians or mechanics.
• Perform demolition and chipping tasks as needed using air tools, hand tools, and power tools.
• Clean and maintain work areas, tools, and equipment to support safe and efficient shop operations.
• Follow instructions from supervisors and experienced team members to complete assigned tasks accurately and on time.
• Handle physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, standing for long periods, and working in dirty and dusty conditions.
• Adapt to changing tasks during rebuild cycles, moving from jackhammering to other rebuild and general labor duties as needed.
• Observe and follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of tools and materials.
• Collaborate with a small team, communicate clearly, and remain open to learning new skills and techniques.

• Ability to safely use hand tools, including wrenches, hammers, and basic mechanical tools.
• Ability to safely use power tools and air tools in an industrial shop environment.
• Comfort operating a jackhammer and performing heavy, repetitive tasks such as breaking asphalt.
• Mechanical aptitude and interest in working with industrial machinery and equipment.
• Willingness to work hard, perform physically demanding labor, and handle dirty, hot, or cold conditions.
• Openness to learning new skills and following detailed instructions from experienced team members.
• Reliability and dependability, including consistently showing up on time for scheduled shifts.
• Ability to work effectively in a small team environment and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors.

• Prior mechanic experience in an industrial setting is highly valued.
• Experience helping replace parts on industrial equipment is a strong plus.
• Previous experience as a general laborer in an industrial or construction environment is beneficial.
• Familiarity with asphalt equipment, conveyors, or rebuild operations is an advantage.
• Interest in growing into roles such as equipment rebuild technician, mechanic, or demolition and chipping technician.

This position is based in an industrial shop environment that is not climate controlled, so you will work in both hot and cold conditions depending on the season. The work is very dirty due to constant exposure to asphalt, dust, and debris, especially during jackhammering and demolition tasks. A typical rebuild project lasts three to four weeks, with jackhammering focused over three to four days before shifting to other rebuild and general labor tasks. You will use air tools, hand tools, power tools, and jackhammers regularly, and you should expect physically demanding work that involves standing, bending, lifting, and working in confined or awkward spaces. The schedule follows a first shift, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing long but predictable workdays in a small team setting where safety gear and practical work attire are essential.

This is a Contract position based out of Chattanooga, TN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
