These accolades reflect our unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and inclusivity in preparing the next generation of nursing professionals.The HEEAT Lab (addressing Health disparities through Engagement, Equity, Advocacy, and Trust) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) to co-lead clinical research operations for community-engaged studies focused on advancing health equity. In this role, you will play a central leadership part in a large-scale randomized controlled trial (RCT), UPDOs (Using PrEP Doing It for Ourselves), partnering with beauty salons to promote HIV prevention among Black women across six counties in North Carolina (Durham, Wake, Cumberland, Forsyth, Mecklenburg, and Guilford). You will work in a hybrid environment, spending three (3) days per week in the community and two (2) days completing administrative work, documentation, and meetings. This position requires regular travel to salon sites and participant locations. This is a one-year term position with the potential for extension based on funding. You will report to the Assistant Research Practice Manager for the Duke School of Nursing, with a dotted line to the Principal Investigator.Minimum RequirementsBachelor's degree OR Associate's degree plus a minimum of two years of relevant experience (e.g., research, clinical, interaction with study population, program coordination)Experience with IRB and human subjects researchStrong community engagement experienceAbility to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary teamExcellent time management, organization, and follow-throughStrong communication, collaboration, and community engagement skillsProficiency with computer software and web-based applications (e.g., Microsoft Office)Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree3–5 years of research coordination experience preferredExperience with randomized controlled trials (RCTs)Experience in grant managementHIV/PrEP research experienceExperience working with diverse populations, particularly Black cisgender womenOther RequirementsAbility to travel regularly across six North Carolina counties (Durham, Wake, Cumberland, Forsyth, Mecklenburg, Guilford)Ability to perform extended periods of data entry and maintain accurate recordsThis position is hybrid, requiring both community-based work and administrative responsibilities.Position ResponsibilitiesCo-lead clinical research operations for the UPDOs RCT across multiple salon sites, ensuring protocol fidelity, timelines, and regulatory complianceCoordinate participant activities including recruitment, consent, enrollment, retention strategies, and follow-up visits within community-based salon settingsLead regulatory and IRB processes, including submissions, amendments, continuing reviews, audit preparation, and compliance with institutional, state, and federal guidelinesOversee data collection and quality, ensuring accuracy, completeness, data security, workflow mapping, and development of data tools, reports, and visualizationsConduct and document study visits, consent processes, eligibility screening, participant payments, and maintain participant-level and study-level documentationManage community partnerships, building relationships with salon owners, staff, advisory councils, and participants to foster engagement and retentionDevelop recruitment and retention strategies, including social media outreach, community events, and salon-based engagement activitiesLead training and education initiatives, including training salon partners, opinion leaders, and study staff; develop materials and provide ongoing coachingSupport scientific activities, including literature reviews, grant reporting, proposal development, protocol design, and contributions to publications and presentationsPrepare study reports and communications, including progress updates, lay summaries, and stakeholder-facing materialsEnsure operational readiness, including supply management, OnCore utilization, payment processing, SOP development, and study closeout activitiesProvide leadership and mentorship, supporting team training, facilitating meetings, serving on committees, and contributing to lab strategy and operationsPromote ethical research conduct, including adverse event identification/reporting, participant safety, consent planning, and regulatory documentationContribute to team science and collaboration, working closely with investigators, coordinators, and community partners to ensure seamless study executionJoin the HEEAT Lab at Duke School of Nursing, where innovation, equity, and community partnership drive meaningful change in public health.
