Overview Location: Rome, NY Duration: 3 months contract with potential for permanent placement Job Code: CVDJP00035235 Job Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination. Updating patient information and collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures. Properly explaining the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear but courteous manner. Demonstrating technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understanding all physician orders and matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test orders. Verifying test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Packaging specimens for transport and storing them at the required temperature in appropriate containers. Following procedures outlined by specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport. Understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attending annual department trainings. Answering telephone calls and reviewing laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required by some states). Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced laboratory or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. #J-18808-Ljbffr
