Triages, treats, and stabilizes patients in emergency medical conditions. Performs duties without direct supervision. Requires flexibility to provide care in the ED and as a pre‑hospital provider as needed. Serves as patient advocate and teacher to improve outcomes. Provides post‑procedure instruction and treatment. Addresses patient and family concerns. Functions in an out‑of‑hospital environment, including staff in an ALS ambulance as primary or secondary provider on an as‑needed basis. May be required to cover calls on occasion for emergency or ambulance. Responsibilities Triage, treat, and stabilize patients in emergency medical conditions. Perform duties independently without direct supervision. Provide patient advocacy and education. Offer post‑procedure instructions and treatments. Address patient and family concerns. Serve in ALS ambulance as primary or secondary provider as needed. Cover emergency or ambulance calls on an as‑needed basis. Perform basic nursing skills, suture and drain removal, splint and cast removal. Calculate and administer drug dosages. Administer blood products. Maintain peripheral and central venous catheters (Subclavian, Portacath, PICC). Conduct history and physical for triage and documentation. Follow EMTALA regulations for patient screening and transfer. Lead or participate in medical and trauma resuscitations. Perform invasive skills (IV, IM, NG, OG, Foley). Maintain airway and oxygen delivery devices. Collect specimens (ABG, blood, stool, urine, sputum, wound). Perform suture removal, wound cleansing and debridement. Carry a minimum of 50% of patient load/equipment for safe patient movement. Use cardiac monitors, IV pumps, cast saw, TNCC skills (spinal immobilization, splinting, triage). Maintain cleanliness and equipment maintenance records. Work under stressful conditions with immediate response to emergencies. Use all requisite equipment and adhere to institutional policies. Follow confidentiality, professionalism, and customer service expectations. Adhere to safety and break policies, report absences, be available as needed. Participate in continuing education and in‑service requirements. Experience and Education – Minimum Associate’s Degree in Science of Nursing. ACLS, BCLS, PALS (or equivalent), and TNCC (or approved equivalent) certifications within 9 months of hire. Registered Nurse licensed in Missouri. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Science of Nursing. Minimum two years of experience in critical care or emergency care. Ability to perform duties in a high‑stress environment and react immediately to emergencies. Ability to work with limited or no supervision. No physical lifting limitations.
