About the Role
NLSLA is seeking a full-time, temporary Social Worker to support a Douglas Foundation-funded initiative designed to expand access to domestic violence, legal, and social-service resources through community-based workshops, clinics, outreach, and individualized support. The Social Worker will provide trauma-informed assessment, brief intervention, case management, safety planning, advocacy, and resource coordination while helping develop and facilitate educational programming for CalWORKs students, community-college participants, and other low-income individuals and families, with a focus on the Antelope Valley. This position requires regular travel to the Antelope Valley to provide services, conduct community outreach, participate in community events, and support workshops and clinics at partner locations.

In this role, you would report to the Supervisor of Social Services. This position is exempt and temporary.

What You’ll Do

• Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments and identify client needs, strengths, safety concerns, barriers, and appropriate service plans.
• Provide trauma-informed short-term social-work interventions, crisis support, safety planning, case management, advocacy, referrals, and follow-up.
• Provide individualized support to survivors of domestic violence and other clients experiencing social, economic, family, housing, or safety-related barriers.
• Develop, coordinate, and facilitate community workshops and educational presentations on topics including domestic violence and healthy relationships, domestic violence restraining orders, housing rights, custody and family-law resources, employment rights, traffic-related legal issues, and other community-identified needs.
• Collaborate with NLSLA attorneys and advocates to help clients understand and navigate legal systems and connect clients to appropriate legal assistance.
• Coordinate with community colleges, CalWORKs programs, community-based organizations, and other partners to establish referral pathways, outreach opportunities, and workshop participation.
• Conduct community outreach and participate in resource fairs, tabling events, clinics, presentations, and other activities designed to increase awareness of NLSLA and available services.
• Provide warm handoffs and coordinate services with social-service agencies, government programs, mental-health providers, domestic violence agencies, and other community resources.
• Support program development by identifying emerging community needs, helping refine workshop content and outreach strategies, and strengthening partnerships in the Antelope Valley.
• Maintain timely and accurate case documentation, service records, outreach records, participant information, assessments, and other documentation required for program and grant reporting.
• Track service outcomes and assist with program data collection, evaluation, and reporting related to Douglas Foundation-funded activities.
• Participate in interdisciplinary case consultation and collaborate with NLSLA case managers, attorneys, advocates, interns, and other staff to address client needs.
• Provide services using trauma-informed, culturally responsive, strengths-based, and client-centered practices.
• Regular travel to the Antelope Valley is required to conduct outreach, attend community events, facilitate workshops and clinics, meet with community partners, and provide client services. Travel to other NLSLA offices and locations throughout Los Angeles County may also be required.
• Performs other duties as assigned reasonably related to the position and generally within the same level and classification as core responsibilities.
• This position is designated as hybrid. Employees are?required?to work on-site a minimum of two (2) days per week, with the remaining time eligible for remote work as business needs allow. Specific in-office days may be set by the department or manager to support team collaboration and organizational priorities. Any out-of-state work is prohibited unless prior approval is obtained from HR.
• Travel to NLSLA program offices, courthouses, and other locations throughout Los Angeles County may be required.

Requirements

What You’ll Need

• Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited program.
• Experience providing direct social-work services, case management, crisis intervention, advocacy, or resource coordination to low-income individuals and families.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and experience working with individuals affected by domestic violence or other significant psychosocial stressors.
• Strong assessment, facilitation, organizational, documentation, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in community settings and collaboratively with attorneys, advocates, case managers, and community partners.
• Ability to facilitate workshops and educational presentations for clients, students, community members, and partner organizations.
• Must be able and willing to regularly travel to the Antelope Valley and other locations throughout Los Angeles County based on program needs.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, business communication platforms, and web-based case management platforms.
• Passion for NLSLA mission and demonstrated commitment to advocating for the legal rights of low-income individuals.?
• Passion, empathy, and compassion for supporting people from different lived experiences.

Bonus Points

• California registration as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
• Experience serving survivors of domestic violence, CalWORKs participants, parenting students, or community-college populations.
• Knowledge of Los Angeles County resources and experience conducting outreach or providing services in the Antelope Valley.
• Are bilingual in Spanish, due to the high number of Spanish-speaking residents in the community, or in any of the other Los Angeles threshold languages, which is highly valued in our community outreach efforts.
