Job Overview This position is responsible for the safe transportation of equipment to and from various customer job locations and stores. The role involves local hauling of equipment and supplies as well as loading, unloading, and securing the equipment. Additionally this position will assist with rolling cable, inventory assistance, helping load/unload customers and various shop and/or yard activities when applicable. This position is responsible for the safe transportation of engine components, parts, and similar loads. The incumbent assists engine builders during overhauls, performs vehicle inspections, and handles local pick‑up and delivery. The incumbent is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self‑development. Essential Functions Model, promote, reinforce, and reward consistent use of VBL tools and processes to align with vision, values, and mission. Deliver and pick up equipment for customers safely, timely, efficiently, and courteously. Secure equipment by chaining, strapping, and blocking according to procedures. Perform pre‑ and post‑vehicle inspections; inspect truck for defects and safe operating conditions before, during, and after delivery trips. Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles. Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid and minor repairs. Complete DOT required driver’s daily log and trip sheets accurately and without misrepresentation. Perform basic troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment at job site and make minor repairs. Demonstrate proper and safe equipment usage to customers at the point of delivery. Obtain required signatures on rental contracts, pick‑up, and exchange forms. Assist with rolling cables, inventory assistance, load/unload customers, and shop or yard activities safely and efficiently. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of industrial engines, transportation, and safe driving procedures. Knowledge of Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and DOT guidelines. Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems. Knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Understanding of customer service principles: needs assessment, quality standards, and satisfaction evaluation. Quality control analysis skills: conducting tests and inspections to evaluate quality or performance. Operation and control skills: controlling equipment or system operations. Equipment selection skills: determining the tools and equipment needed for a job. Ability to adjust the controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions rapidly. Ability to read maps and operate GPS systems. Maintain a clean driver’s record and diligent attention to safety. Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair. Ability to coordinate finger movements for precise assembly of small objects. Ability to read and understand written information. Ability to listen to and understand spoken information. Requirements Education and Experience Three years’ driving experience preferred, with verifiable over‑the‑road experience operating combination commercial vehicles. High school or equivalent diploma preferred. Valid driver’s license required. Class A CDL certification, DOT physical examination (medical card). Experience driving delivery trucks, towing tandem axle utility trailers, and towable construction equipment, and operating safely within high‑traffic or congested city zones and in small areas. Supervisory Responsibilities None Travel Up to 100% travel required. Physical Requirements Remain stationary 100% of the time. Move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Frequently move materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Constant movement and use of limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina. Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress using both hands and feet, climb ladders independently. Safely maneuver and work underneath equipment. React to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and visually inspect work. Work Environment Work in a closed vehicle or equipment. Wear common protective or safety equipment. Work outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions including extreme conditions such as heavy rain, wind, or excessive temperatures. Exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment.
