Senior Construction Accountant
Headfarmer LLC
Senior Construction Accountant Opportunity!
About the Company
Headfarmer’s client is a long-established, nationally recognized general contractor with a reputation for excellence and innovation across a diverse mix of building and infrastructure work. They've grown their top line by roughly 30% over the past five years, carry no debt, and are investing heavily in their future. A wave of major new project wins means they're scaling quickly, and the accounting team is growing with them. Employees consistently rate it a great place to work, and the culture is refreshingly light on bureaucracy, so good ideas get implemented fast.
The Opportunity
We're looking for two accountants to join a small corporate accounting team responsible for the financial reporting of the company's operating divisions. You'll own the monthly reporting for a few divisions at a time, partnering directly with divisional leadership and senior executives. This visibility is a real advantage for anyone who wants to grow. One role is new due to growth, and the other is opening up due to a retirement.
This is a great fit for an early-career accountant with momentum, someone who wants a clear runway rather than a role they'll plateau in.
What You'll Do
- Drive the monthly close for your assigned divisions, including preparing and booking journal entries
- Build monthly divisional financial statements and forecasts, then refine them with operations as new information comes in
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare operational reconciliations
- Manage fixed asset activity, including book and tax depreciation
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns and support broader tax analysis
- Produce recurring labor and equipment reporting for field operations
- Support budgeting, year-end close, and the annual audit
- Help modernize and streamline accounting processes as the company scales
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 2+ years of accounting experience with exposure to construction accounting, including revenue recognition for contracts
- Solid understanding of GAAP and strong analytical skills
- Clear communicator who works well across teams and with non-finance partners
- Ability to stay organized and accurate through a cyclical workload with intense close weeks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Nice to Have
- Public accounting background and an interest in moving into industry
- CPA, CPA-eligible, or working toward it (CCIFP a plus)
- State and local sales and use tax experience
- Experience with a large enterprise ERP system
Why You'll Want This Role
- A defined growth path into Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Controller roles, with emerging divisional finance leadership roles over time
- Direct exposure to senior leadership early in your career
- An outstanding retirement program with company contributions well above market
- Performance-based bonus, plus medical, dental, vision, and PTO
- The financial stability of a debt-free company combined with the energy of rapid growth
