Anticipated Starting Salary L-A / Range 2 - $5,507 - $5,959 L-B / Range 3 - $6,221 - $7,481 L-C / Range 4 - $6,825 - $9,431 L-D / Range 5 - $8,593 - $10,347 Department Summary The Native American and Indigenous Studies program is housed in the Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences (SISS) at San José State University. SISS is part of the College of Social Sciences and is committed to equitable and inclusive teaching and learning. Brief Description Of Duties Part‑time faculty appointments for teaching NAIS curriculum (lower and upper division 3‑unit courses) as needed. Candidates should be able to teach in a culturally sustaining environment and support a diverse student population. Teach the NAIS curriculum (lower and upper division 3‑unit courses) as needed and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load. The department is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in more than one academic field and educational and background experience in inter/trans‑disciplinary and decolonial pedagogies. Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity—through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement. Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in‑person, or hybrid). Required Qualifications M.A. required in one or more areas of Native American and Indigenous Studies, including environmental studies, sovereignty, Indigeneity, gender and sexuality, literature, culture and language reclamation, and revitalization. Two or more years of teaching experience. Preference for candidates with prior college or university teaching experience and evidence of teaching excellence. Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline. Compensation Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. Part‑time rates are prorated from the full‑time ranges listed above.
