Pharmacy Manager

What Health System Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health’s pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers. Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers and may also consult with and advise the healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes. Cardinal Health is seeking a Pharmacy Manager for a growing Long‑Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) in Stoughton, MA. This 80‑bed facility (current census ~35) offers a unique opportunity to own and expand pharmacy services in a supportive, growth‑oriented environment. Job Summary The Manager, Pharmacy coordinates, directs, manages, facilitates, and oversees the execution and evaluation of all administrative and clinical activities. Through the optimization of procedures, this role ensures consistent and efficient delivery to control costs, minimize waste, optimize customer relationships and deliver positive patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies. The role also maintains inventory control and budget, staff scheduling, performance monitoring, and achievement of individual and departmental goals. Responsibilities Plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates all clinical activities delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including supervision of refilling machines, medical prescriptions database entries and dispatch of medicines. Plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates all administrative activities delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including scheduling of pharmacy technician tasks, monitoring process compliance and monthly reporting. Implements procedures to comply with regulations for medicine handling, including reception and storage of medicines, inventory, and expense controls. Manages day‑to‑day activities of pharmacy technicians and monitors their performance to meet departmental goals. Communicates with nursing, doctors and administrative areas to provide alternatives and/or supervises preparation of interventional drugs when medicines are absent. Maintains pharmacist’s certifications and database privileges and access controls to medical records. Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist. Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory, executing necessary orders, reviewing, and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks when necessary. Leads processes for hiring of pharmacy staff, onboarding, and performance management, including competency evaluations and documentation. Manages internal workflows of acute pharmacy, optimizing staffing and scheduling to maintain best‑in‑class and streamlined operations. Participates in meetings and provides insight to hospital committees to ensure coordination among cross‑functional groups. Assists in executing plans to lower costs, increase efficiency and drive profitable growth to support strategic business objectives in the acute pharmacy business. Assumes responsibility for quality assurance monitoring and completing end‑of‑month reports as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy. Qualifications 4–8 years of experience, preferred. Inpatient experience highly preferred. An active and in‑good‑standing MA license. Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred. May require vendor credentialing.
